A bit of a side step but this place in London is worth a brief visit on a walk around Smithfield for random acts of amazing kindness and self sacrifice. V moving and on the 63 bus route.

That is one of the saddest (In the original meaning of sad) places I have ever been.

But I agree worth a visit.

I worked closely to Postman's Park for an extended period (named as it was adjacent to the St Martin's Le Grand Head Post Office in the King Edward Building - where the War Memorial to those employed by the Post Office, and especially those who served in the Post Office Rifles, is). Postman's Park was (and probably still is) a fine place to sit and contemplate with your sandwiches in the summer. I too would warmly recommend a visit.

Another sidestep on my part, if I may.

The naval event associated with those times that is seared in my mind is the sinking of the Lolaire in January 1919.

This small vessel was taking returning soldiers, who had survived the First World War, back to their families on the Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides. The island did not have a big population and so was a tight knit community. You can only imagine how much the families were looking forward to welcoming home those who had survived the war.

But the vessel sank just outside the harbour at Stornoway and over 200 died.

A devastating tragedy by any measure.

    • Trump suffers from opening his mouth before putting his brain in gear. Needs to take a lesson in statesmanship from Carney, slow well thought out responses to media questions. How about Carney for President of the US as well. That should upset some and more.
    • As every day goes by, it looks increasingly likely that Trump is going to sell Ukraine down the river. It's a re-run of Chamberlain and Hitler over Czechoslovakia. Trump talks of re-allocating "assets" which means conceding assets of Ukraine to Putin  and of putting in peace-keeping forces into Ukraine  to "guarantee" security. History tells us that peace-keeping forces are ineffective. Remember Bosnia & Hertzogovinia in 1996. Remember the peace keepers on the Golan Heights. They disappeared without firing a shot when Serbia and Israel took military action. It will be the same in Ukraine. Give it five years (or less) and Russia will extend its land grab.  Sadly, history repeats itself because the appeasers fail to grasp the realities. Just pray that The Donald becomes the fifth before too long.
    • Niko completed a third job for me now. A leaking tap that was oozing from everywhere. I called Niko in the morning, showed him a recording of the problem,  and he was over with a new tap, fitted within the hour. Job done, perfect! I know I can always rely on Niko. He is my go to plumber.
