NOTE. You must register on Eventbrite so we can limit numbers, links below.

We have 2 rides, one all day, one 2 hours. Remember you should register on Eventbrite, details below. If you cannot make it, please cancel so that someone else can take the place. Even at the last minute it is worth cancelling (How to cancel). Note that all planned rides are subject to change last minute due to rail (& ferry) strikes, illness, extreme weather etc. Whenever possible we will keep start time and place as advertised. We will always try to contact registered riders by e-mail.

Ride 1. Peckham Rye Park - Forest Hill - Waterlink Way Loop < https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/peckham-rye-park-forest-hill-waterlink-way-cycle-ride-tickets-422159840447 > .

Start 10am at Peckham Rye Park Café (The Round, Straker’s Rd., SE15 3UA). Bruce leading. We have not started a ride from this location, but many will know it as we start the led rides to Freecycle from there. It is easy to reach from Peckham and Dulwich (10 min ride from Peckham Square or Dulwich Village).

Why are we riding up Forest Hill? For the usual reason – it is there. Forms northern high point of a ridge that runs for 8km from Telegraph Hill and Hilly Fields in the NE to Grangewood Park, near Thornton Health, at the SW end. Forest Hill is not very scenic. Covered in housing and only limited views (but there are some). At 100m it is a nice challenge. Having done a hilly bit need to average things out by doing a flat section. None better than the Waterlink Way. We will ride 3km of this excellent off road route. The total ride is short, 8 miles, so we can take it easy on the uphills, walking if necessary. An easy ride suitable for even quite inexperienced cyclists. Everyone welcome. Details of the proposed route at

Ride 2. Regents Canal Circular Ride < https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/regents-canal-circular-cycle-ride-tickets-422157573667>

A circular ride starting and finishing at the Southwark Gateway Needle (SE side London Bridge, top of Duke St Hill, close to London Bridge Station). It is a long ride, 10am to approx. 4pm. It will involve much towpath riding, some of it busy with pedestrians, so be prepared for that and pay close attention to the safety brief at the start of the ride. Jamie leading: here are his rules of engagement.

Mission

To carefully cycle a challenging section of the iconic Regents Canal network.

Coordinating Instructions and Timings

Riders will meet at 10.00am on Saturday 24th September at Southwark Needle with an estimated return to Southwark Needle by 4pm. A Riders safety briefing will be given at the meeting point.

Route

Riders should be aware that this is predominantly a relaxed social event that involves some enjoyable and challenging cycling in stages for about 20 miles much of which will be on Canal side pathways.

The Route will take us past Hyde Park, Paddington Station, Little Venice, Primrose Hill, Camden Lock, Granary Square, Victoria Park and Limehouse Basin.

Checks and Equipment

Riders are urged to pre-check their general ABC bike serviceability e.g. A = Air in tires,

B = Brakes, C= Chain & Gears etc.

Rations and Water

Our first coffee stop will be around 11.30 am at Little Venice. Riders are advised to bring their own Picnic lunch / snack for a lunch break at around 12.30pm which will take place at the famous Primrose Hill viewpoint. We will also stop for a tea break at the Victoria Park Café time permitting.
