GemmaT
I thought I would post this to warn others in the area. Two flats in my block (Olivia Court on Melbourne Grove) were broken into yesterday. I came home to find both their doors had been smashed in so I immediately called the police, it was very scary as I was unsure whether they were still in any of the flats. The police eventually came about half an hour later but they had long gone, probably happened in the afternoon when everyone was at work! My flat was not broken into this time although we were burgled in December after only moving in in September so I think it is highly likely that the same people carried out these burglaries.I really feel for the people involved as I know what a horrible experience it can be. So if anyone saw anything suspicious yesterday on Melbourne grove, please contact the police.ThanksGemma Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/3142-more-burglaries-on-melbourne-grove/ Share on other sites
karter
Hi Gemma, i agree its an awful experience being burgled. It happened to me once and was shocking, afterwards i upgraded the security in the house and guess what, the buggers tried to get in again but couldn't, just as what has happened in your block of flats, if they know it's easy they will return.Use the deadlock everytime i would say and upgrade your security. If you didn't know already, Callow locksmiths on Lordship Lane provides security equipment and services, oh and buy a shotgun, theres a shop on Lordship Lane that sell 'pieces'. :) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/3142-more-burglaries-on-melbourne-grove/#findComment-97889 Share on other sites
Nero
I feel for you. Use it as a chance to upgrade your security and to warn others of the perils, and advise them to fit more locks. I'd say that two deadlocks are better than one - the locksmith mentioned above are good and will offer good advice. Decent lighting, well-kept hedges/trees that don't afford any cover for a burglar are important, too. Getting to know your neighbours, and promising to look out for them if they do the same for you is also a good idea. ????
Another deterrent would be to give burglars a five year mandatory jail sentence....but apparently our jails are too full...personally I think they're too empty given the amount of scumbags out and about Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/3142-more-burglaries-on-melbourne-grove/#findComment-98054 Share on other sites
SteveT
Bring back the stocks, and a good flogging wouldn't go amiss either. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/3142-more-burglaries-on-melbourne-grove/#findComment-98077 Share on other sites
