Boris Johnson moving to Dulwich Village? What have we done to deserve this? ;-)

Recommended Posts

Dulwich Village, our very own Florida.

Perhaps Johnson will name his new place Maro-Lago (Completo-Twatto would be more fitting IMO).

And will the residents join in opposition to his proposed encampment there as per FL?

Let's look at the positive aspects

He and his police security will get so fed up of receiving LTN tickets or not being able to drive straight into the village without hitting "displaced" traffic that he will have a word in the shell like of the transport secretary and Bob's your bleeding auntie the LTN scheme may be reviewed

Equally house prices locally may tumble as a result of his arrival and locals can afford to live here again.

There will be police on street corners so crime may disperse.

Finally, not forgetting the tourism benefits as bus loads of Japanese will come to the area to see the star of the film Carrie and local shops and resturants will achieve record sales as a result

He may find his budget of £3m doesn't go as far as he thinks....;-) I am with Spartacus - this could be the trigger for the house price crash locally!

Although I do wonder if he might head to where Maggie was as security is probably the defining purchase criteria!

The general view is that Thatch's house in West Dulwich (or Common, surely not the village) was bought due the proximity to the golf course - for hubby. But that she didn't realise they'd need to go through Brixton to get into town. May be total nonsense

I know of at least one person who occasionally shouts Maggie Maggie Maggie, out out out, when they pass it

Maggie did live in the house with hubby - if only for a short while. I could tell you true stories of the security detail in the converted adjoining garage and the Chinook helicopter incident over the golf course - but if I did, I’d unfortunately have to kill you.

I remember doing a delivery of furniture to the house next door to Maggie's and the security was very tight to get anywhere close to the other houses - booking a slot for arrival, bomb checks in and under the van etc.

Which is why it is rather surprising, if the rumours I heard last night are true, that Boris has selected a house on a road that is very much not a gated community. It sounds like the house search was concluded some time ago. I bet the neighbours are going to be delighted to not only have Boris living next to them but also all of the security rigmarole that will no doubt have to come with him.

I remember going past her place when she resigned as PM and the Common was littered with news crews and trucks.

Dulwich does have history in being hostile to ex Tory PMs. When Margaret Thatcher, as a local VIP resident, switched on the Christmas lights in the Village, eggs were thrown at her. She didn’t last long in the ghetto, sorry gated community, on the South Circular and was soon living in the safety of Belgravia.

She was also reputed to dislike the drive through Brixton on her way to Westminster. Can’t imagine why…..

There was talk when Maggie moved into Dulwich Village, that the house was a gift from, I think, Bovis (or some other national building company) as a PR stunt. The building company was being slated for poor quality new housing and Maggie having one of their houses, other people would take note and purchase. Heard this tale from various people including friends who had strong links to various MPs at the time.

I heard the same rumour. At least he’ll be handy for the station…

Fingers crossed no Russians from Salisbury pop over. I’d hate to end up with Novichok in my coffee just because Johnson popped in the local cafe for a sausage roll.

Surprised that most of you are using their given names - for the worst prime minister since McMillan and the PM who divided the nation. Obviously many of you are fond of them and Johnson will be very welcome. You can enjoy jolly anecdotes with him in the Great Exhibition

I hear the street What's App group is on fire - the people are not happy - doesn't a Labour MP live on the same or neighbouring road - the street parties might be fun?! It's one hell of a pad he has bought and apparently matching cargo bikes as well so everyone will get their chance to egg them as they trundle to Gail's for brekkie!!! ;-)

    • Indeed ianr, I didn't have time to include all Royal Mail options, thanks for that extra bit, they have been spot on for me, I use them a lot and have never had any issues with delivery, touch wood!
    • People are switching to electric cars irrespective of fuel prices.  100s of millions that could be spent on hospitals and schools for example have been lost due to fuel duty freezes and a supposedly temporary reduction.  Fuel is relatively cheap at the moment.  With a stonking majority when is it time to rightly take on motorists? Farming, I simply referred to Paul Johnson of the IFS who knows more about the economy that you, I and Truss will ever know. Food?  Au contraire.  It's too cheap, too poor quality and our farmers are squeezed by the supermarkets and unnatural desire to keep it cheap.  A lot less takeaways and more home cooking with decent often home produced, food should benefit most in our society. Be honest you do t like Labour.
