Awful incident and hope the perpetrators are caught ASAP! People like that are pathetic bullies!

Although descriptive that they had a dog, I do agree it is misleading and unfair to imply the dog was part of the attack when it wasn't.

Hope your Boyf recovers quickly and you get back to running in the park ASAP - I ran in the park daily for a number of years and only encountered unpleasant people (fortunately rarely and nothing like you describe).

I have toddlers and dogs, it's such a shame that so many children are taught to be afraid of dogs now. Bring then up to never touch a dog unless the owner says it fine but to be scared....... Better off teaching them to be scared of people.... Far more likely to be harmed by another person!

Why is it pompous to say my children have not been raised in fear, the assumption on this thread is that if adults are afraid then children are generally scared of big dogs and that is what I responded to in the thread above mine, not some random bonkers rambling about my "kiddies".

Perhaps you assume my children are all young and are not living proof of this theory...the eldest is 28, the youngest 11 so I feel I have the benefit of hindsight.

My children HAVE been brought up to love and respect others and I know they would not dismiss another person's point of view or life experience as "utter tripe" simply because it's different to theirs.

I actually am a regular member of the same running club as the author of the original post, I know all about running in the park and I will most likely know these runners so I do genuinely sympathise but I also know lots of very good, responsible dog owners and lots of "scary looking dogs" who are wonderful family pets and I am simply trying to be balanced in my view.

Tony Quinn I suggest you read the thread fully and be sure you are fully informed before you rant, in actual fact TerriG makes clear the dog DID NOT attack her partner, the humans allegedly did...

I'm done with this now so my last word is for Tony Quinn " Wow you wake up REALLY angry at 8:11am don't you, you might wanna work on that!" Now you can call me pompous...

OK. We have parents, joggers and dog owners all laying into one another. If we can somehow get the cat people and the cyclists in on this one, it'll be like the biggest EDF self-interest group barney EVER!!

Popcorn and comfy chair at the ready. And go...

I am actually baffled by some responses on here with regards to dogs! How many times do people have to be told it is a completely separate issue before they leave it alone?! Terig, you have explained the situation very clearly and have even clarified your points about the dog. Dog and bone spring to mind.

Ha! Just another day on the EDF!

I think the reason your post has pissed people off is the " don't be scared of the nice doggie" element . It is rather presumptuous to dismiss the fears of the OP - you werent there after all. Despite the Love All Lifeforms ideal you espouse some people simply are afraid of or just don't like this particular life form. Get over it.

Terrible experience to have.

I'm a life long distance runner and sympathise completely.

On the issue of the dog...it's the human that defines "frightening" not the dog, or its owner.

It IS frightening to be approached by an unknown animal that may be/or may not be aggressive. ESPECIALLY if it's a "fighting breed" and the owners also look intimidating (and of course, they know it). Dog owners need to get to grips with this.

Yours

Rgutsell

Rahrahrah et al, please stop hijacking this thread with inconsequential rambling. The OP is warning the public about the 2 thugs in question and requesting witnesses to come forward. There could be important pieces of information in this bloated thread which could now get lost because people frankly can't be arsed to trawl through 4 pages of off topic BS.
what a horrible experience for you both.. but how st typical.. your comments were.. my husband is a large white man , with a bald head and a "beer belly ". who dresses causally , when not doing his day job as a paramedic.!!!. and yes we have a dog..may be you should nt judge a book by its cover and wont feel "intimidated" if he ever has to save your life or rescue your "man" from a dog attack
Julijux, I don't think the OP was suggesting that bald men with beer bellies are usually intimidating. She describes them as having short hair. She is simply giving a description of the people who beat up her partner. I don;t think she is making a generalisation about anything or anyone. (if I have missed a paragraph somewhere, apologies)

Words fail me...

I am outraged that you said the culprits were male! By this you are suggesting that all males are criminals. I am gravely offended. This infringes on my rights and I may take it to the European Courts of Justice. You have been warned.
I think you'll find that there are far fewer sympathisers towards the rights of man than towards the rights of dog on this forum. Thomas Paine must be spinning like a top. (And, yes, I did know he meant 'mankind' but in the 18th century that (considering voting rights etc.), did pretty well mean man)

Ridiculous that a load of people on this forum instead of being sympathetic towards your plight have been trying to stick up for the dog!Hey guess what, a load of pitbull types have actually killed children and while you may all know of some lovely ones that you were brought up with etc etc, the fact remains the pitbull crosses and associated breeds are extremely powerful dogs that need responsible owners.

Sorry but a couple of blokes that attack someone over a perceived slight to their dog doesn't sound like responsible owners to me. Sounds like thugs who would be more than happy to use their dog as a weapon.

Yes it's not the dog's fault what they are but it is entirely fair for the people who had the awful experience in the park to tell people about it and how they perceived the dog without being ticked off!

Honestly it's pathetic.

    • Walking last Friday early evening anywhere near where the bottom end of Lordship Lane meets the Goose Green roundabout, one would have been directly confronted - as I was - with this scene: Outside the East Dulwich Tavern an impenetrable phalanx of pushing yobs, shouty louts and selfish yahoos pressed outward from the open doors of this establishment, past the curtilage (the land in front of and owned by the business), all across the public right of way, to the kerbside. This was the situation all the way along, end to end. I watched as passersby, old people, children, parents with buggies, people just going about their business, were forced by these booze-sucking bellowing scumbags onto the road - where, at that hour, traffic rushed endlessly off the roundabout. We have, I realised, somehow become so used to this revolting spectacles as to believe it to be inevitable. It is not. This is why I'm dropping this post. Enough really is enough. This roiling boozy blockade represents a total failure by all the responsible authorities - the licencing authority, for example - but most of all (yet once more, again, as ever), by Southwark Council. Two very different comparisons to give you some perspective: 1. The Kings Head pub on the corner of Albermarle and Stafford Streets, London SW1. Here too, patrons like to drink and chat outside on a warm evening - why should they not. But here, on the latter side a line marks the curtilage on the pavement. Drinkers remain, respectfully, in good order, within the line, watched, quietly and carefully, by a security guard. I wager good money this arrangement is a condition of this pub's licence. 2. The Blue Brick is a cafe in the quiet backstreets of East Dulwich, on the corners of Fellbrigg and Shawbury Roads. Until a few months ago, about half its covers were tables out on the pavement. They bothered nobody. Oh! But they extended all of several centimetres too far into the footpath, so into fearless action swang Southwark Council officers - and now these tables are gone. Result, eh? "Well you see," some wiseacre said to me, "There needs to be a complaint." Not actually true, but for sure this is all too often how local authorities get pushed to do what they should be doing. Hard to think why a complaint trumps, say (and god forbid!) a child being injured on the road. In which circumstance, of course!, Southwark would swing into noisy, virtue-signalling, belated action. But in any case let this post be considered a big, very definite COMPLAINT about this prolonged abuse of our public right of way. I invite readers who agree with me to add their voices. Oh, and all those wee local ward councillors might get off their chufties, defy their party managers, and actually help sort this scandal out. Thanks for reading, Lee Scoresby
    • Hi there, I saw that Google lists the park opening time as 7:30am, but I was wondering if it might actually open earlier than that - maybe anyone who’s out running early or passing by has noticed?
