Hello,

I'm new in the neighborhood (and in the country!) and am about to spend a Dulwich-based month of August of unpacking and summer fun, with my 6 and 8 year old children.

I know how to use Google for ideas of things to do, but I thought I'd also ask here for any well-informed tips :)

Thanks!

Welcome.

For stuff to do with them or activity clubs for them to attend whilst you unpack?

For the former - you will know about some of these already but I recommend:

Dulwich Park has a lake with pedalos, also recumbent bikes for hire,

Horniman Museum is brilliant for kids that age, loads of interactive stuff indoors and outside

Crystal Palace Park is nice and has the remains of the original Palace plus some historic dinosaur statues

Battersea Park has a small zoo with adventure playground - also Go Ape (treetop adventures)

The South Bank of the Thames has lots going on including Tate Modern which is free entry so you can dip in and out without buying tickets.

Welcome!

My youngest is 7… things we are doing :

Time at various parks, there are loads to choose from locally

Swimming at Alleyns (intensive booked classes)

Horniman museum

Dulwich library (there’s a free exotic creature event on Thursday 11-12)

Ice cream at oddonos on lordship lane

There’s an art class place on Melbourne Grove

You can get cheaper theatre tickets for kids in London in August

Have you got school places sorted out?

Good luck with the unpacking!

    • Hello everyone, It's been a long time since I posted on here and I just wanted to update the situation. I remain active and available for haircuts. I am a home-visit hairdresser based in SW London. It's been a long time since I posted on here and I just wanted to update the situation. I remain active and available for haircuts. Some of you know me already. I posted a while back so I just want to re-introduce myself. I have been working as a hairdresser for the past 20 years (I'm 50, I trained at Vidal Sassoon and had a salon of my own, Top To Toe in Morden Jan 2000-Dec 2004) but now I just do freelance cutting hair for clients in their homes. I am available to answer queries if anyone has any? My speciality is cutting - men, women and children. I do have colour expertise so can advise but I do not colour hair at home. Thank you. There may be members of the forum who remember me coming to their home to do their hair in the 1990s! I have used the forum for a long time, as well also the National Childbirth Trust (NCT) newsletters back in the day. I have many clients with babies - it's one of the many reasons that people choose a home hairdresser. I always allow an hour and a half just in case there are interruptions in the haircut so that we are under no pressure. Finally I always make a policy to mention to new clients that I am transgender woman. I transitioned in 2009 and have reached the point when I "look" perfectly acceptable (I think, There is a profile photo which is up-to-date) however I make a point of being open about my history. If you are OK with that then I would be happy to cut your hair at your earliest convenience. My practice is that you do not wash your hair before I see you and I bring all equipment and styling products with me. All you need is shampoo and conditioner. p.s. If you do look at my website, I happen to be an artist and my website reflects that rather than hairdressing. Victoria Cantons
