two free sociable cycle rides Sat July 30th

Recommended Posts

There is still space on both rides. Remember you should register on Eventbrite, details below. If you cannot make it, please cancel so that someone else can take the place. Even at the last minute it is worth cancelling (How to cancel). Note the weather forecast for Saturday promises 26 degrees and light cloud.

Reminder that we often have photos and short reports on the Facebook site (https://www.facebook.com/groups/553896211918871) and longer reports and route info on the Southwark Cyclists web site (https://southwarkcyclists.org.uk/healthy-rides/healthy-ride-reports-2022/). Some nice butterfly images from last week here.

Ride 1. London Bridge to Kings Cross < https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/london-bridge-to-kings-cross-cycle-ride-tickets-390759230377 > Bruce leading a short (10 miles, 2.5 hours, 10am start) ride from London Bridge (Southwark Needle, south side of bridge) to the new developments at Kings Cross (and back). Will be time for a look round Granary Square and Coal Drop Yard, and to grab a coffee. Route outward heads east via Bank and then uses Cycleway 6. Return route will start through St Pancras Cemetery, then pass the Crick Institute and the British Library, continue through Bloomsbury to Lincolns Inn Fields and finish with a stretch of Cycleway 3 and the loop past The Monument on to London Bridge. Ride 2. 7 Views and an Airline < https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/7-views-and-an-airline-cycle-ride-tickets-390756762997 >

Jamie leading his popular 7 views ride. With this time an extension to ride the Emirates Airline Cable Car (queues permitting). Probably take 3.5 hours, 9.30 to 1pm. Ride will start in Peckham Square and end at Cutty Sark. Note 9.30 start time and the different start and finish locations. For anyone needing to get back to the start in Peckham, we have arranged for one of the riders to lead. The route is predominantly on quiet back roads and paths traversing Nunhead Cemetery, Hilly Fields Park, and Blackheath (The Point viewpoint). On to Greenwich Park and the Gen Wolff viewpoint and the Queens View Point (One Tree Hill).

    • I started a new topic and would love to see you all pop over to help me- I think some excellent ideas are here. I'm keen to get in touch with the lease owners.
    • Hey all, Does anyone know how best to contact The Dulwich Estate or Stonegate? I'm a local entrepreneur with an idea for redeveloping the Derelict Grove Tavern.  Thanks,  Dean
    • If they have altered the state of at least part of Peckham Rye with their anti-flooding measures then perhaps they should alter the planting in that area to take account of the more marshy ground. I am sure that the horticulturalists in The Horniman Park (who do create different habitats) could advise - I assume for a price as consultants - for appropriate new planting to take account of any habitat changes. If it is to be water-logged for considerable periods then it's use as playing fields would need to be re-examined. Perhaps water polo? Actually this is quite a serious issue - I used to play sport in an area of water meadow where a boy drowned in the mud under a collapsed scrum.
    • I was wondering if they were ever going to fix the boardwalk over the pond in Dulwich Park.
