the-e-dealer
So you are a loser if you go out and impotent and bitter if you stay in. Very Jehovah a no win situation. Vicanna
No, you're a loser if you scale the Ritzy's billboard and misspell the slogan you're trying to impress the media with. And yes, your impotent bitterness is showcased for all to see if you fail to live-up to the promise of celebrating her death. Because if their weren't any witnesses or documented evidence of your celebration, it was as flaccid as all the venomous posturing so many failed to deliver on. Perhaps you'd like to post evidence of your own little celebration, if any actually occurred.PS. I'm not a Jehovah's Witness. Huguenot
"...her informed detractors' hesitant cowardice when presented with the opportunity to actually celebrate her death"This is ridiculous. I imagine that many of those 'informed detractors' who criticized her have evolved beyond the Stone Age thrashing of dead corpses with sticks.Do you ever feel that the world has passed you by Vicanna? ;-) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/31075-celebrate-the-passing-of-ms-thatcher/page/3/#findComment-633768 Share on other sites

JohnL
I suppose the only value of loudly celebrating her death is as a warning to prime ministers that this may be you whichdoesn't really work as we're all to materialistic (thanks Maggie).Oh. El Pibe
"And yes, your impotent bitterness is showcased for all to see if you fail to live-up to the promise of celebrating her death"surely this is purest circular logic.Isn't the more likely scenario that most people, even detractors, are thoroughly bored of the whole thing and watching The Village on iPlayer? Vicanna
"Isn't the more likely scenario that most people, even detractors, are thoroughly bored of the whole thing and watching The Village on iPlayer?"Perhaps. I suppose Thatcher's death is annalogous to the arrival of an actual fascist in the form of Paolo Di Canio. People had got so thoroughly tired of the constant howl of "fascist" over the years that they didn't really know how to react when confronted by the real deal. The same could be said of Thatcher's death. Her detractors may have got so used to impressing upon each other and anyone within earshot how they'll dance in the streets when she dies, that they were stunned into inaction when it actually happened. Despite the losers I've already mentioned, that seems to have been the case. Vicanna
E-dealer, I hope that you and Owen Jones are aware that the UK received an IMF bailout in 1976, three years prior to Thatcher taking office? I don't know about you, but IMF bailouts are fairly indicative of a really, really dire economy. How many IMF bailouts were applied for during Thatcher's tenure, exactly? Huguenot
It doesn't T.E.DThe stupidity of his subheading says it all:"We are in the midst of the third great economic collapse since the Second World War: all three have taken place since Thatcherism launched its great crusade"Owen Jones wasn't even born until 1984, he is a trade union researcher and a socialist activist. He's barely more than a student union fist pumper. As a result of his desperately limited life experience he has no recollection of the 3 day weeks, the power cuts, the collapse of industry under the purview of the rapacious left wing crusades of the unions. This country has never been on its knees to the extent that it was in the mid 70s.In short, he's a teenage dick with an agenda, who tells lies to get headlines. Huguenot
I think the only 'obvious' thing about that article was a capacity for astonishing historical revisionism, and a willingness to embody the vicissitudes of the global economy in one individual. It doesn't shock me.My father was a lifelong labour supporter from a blue collar Manchester family. He voted Conservative to both elect and retain Maggie.Maggie didn't create the social changes of the 80s, the nation did, and they did it because the alternatives were worse.Maggie didn't shut down British heavy industry, that's quite simply stupid. British industry was destroyed by globalization. We had globalization because we wanted Japanese televisions and international travel, not because Maggie made it.You can say that 'Maggie didn't save northern communities' but in many northern communities 70% of employment is still public sector. That's about all a government can do, it can't do anything else.Do you know at one point the government owned all the pubs in Carlisle, Thomas Cook and Pickfords Removals? How stupid is that? The governments arranges holidays and moving house???This twattish attribution of the downside of our national social choices is pathetic. It doesn't surprise me, because it happened to Blair. You know why Blair went to war in Iraq? He went to war for oil. He went to war for oil because the nation wouldn't accept anything else. All the mewling and puking about it is grand scale hypocrisy. The most depressing thing about Britain during this period of national decay is the habit of the British to sit in their own mess kidding themselves it wasn't their fault, pillorying other people for their downfall. El Pibe
I was literally about to write, "oh my god, I'm agreeing with everything huguenot says" then you had to go and spoil it all by saying Blair went to war for oil, one of the more constant idiocies you've stuck by over the years.Barring that 10/10 Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/31075-celebrate-the-passing-of-ms-thatcher/page/3/#findComment-633864 Share on other sites
Michael Palaeologus
Well said Huguenot,... and BA was once in public ownership.Interestingly Thomas Cook, Pickfords and BA are all struggling with the shadow of that period of public ownership.
