Round the Parks.

10am to 12noon. Start/finish Peckham Square (Peckham Library, Peckham Pulse Leisure Centre, SE15 5JR). Bruce leading. Specially easy route for less experienced riders and families. Route visits Burgess Park, Myatts Fields, Elam St Open Space, Ruskin Park, Dulwich Park, Peckham Rye Park. 55% off road path, 40 % quiet streets, 6% busy road. 15km (9 miles), mostly flat, one short climb. Route at http://bit.ly/3amtFfd . GPX route file attached

Greenwich to Danson Park.

10am to 1.30pm. Start finish at Cutty Sark, near the tunnel entrance. Eva leading. This is quite a long (18 miles) ride for us with significant short hills (550 feet total climbing). Starts though Greenwich Park then across to cycle paths and quiet streets that parallel the A2, passing on the way the Well Hall Pleasaunce. Leaves the A2 route at Wendover Way and reaches Danson Park from Danson Lane. Coffee break at the really lovely Fleur de Th? in Danson House. Return uses mostly LCN routes to Woolwich Arsenal via Plumstead Common. There joins the Thames path and follows this back to Cutty Sark.

This is Bike Week. Try a Healthy Ride tomorrow - Saturday 11th June.

We have 2 rides. One is fully subscribed already, but there is lots of space on the Round the Parks romp from Peckham through, amongst others, Burgess, Ruskin and Dulwich Parks. Register at https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/southwark-round-the-parks-cycle-ride-tickets-354671109837. Or just turn up at the last minute. Ideal for anyone you want to persuade out on their bike. Just 2 hours, no big hills, lots of lovely paths in the parks.

And a nice forecast, warm, dry, plenty sunshine.

Cheers,

Bruce

    • I started a new topic and would love to see you all pop over to help me- I think some excellent ideas are here. I'm keen to get in touch with the lease owners.
    • Hey all, Does anyone know how best to contact The Dulwich Estate or Stonegate? I'm a local entrepreneur with an idea for redeveloping the Derelict Grove Tavern.  Thanks,  Dean
    • If they have altered the state of at least part of Peckham Rye with their anti-flooding measures then perhaps they should alter the planting in that area to take account of the more marshy ground. I am sure that the horticulturalists in The Horniman Park (who do create different habitats) could advise - I assume for a price as consultants - for appropriate new planting to take account of any habitat changes. If it is to be water-logged for considerable periods then it's use as playing fields would need to be re-examined. Perhaps water polo? Actually this is quite a serious issue - I used to play sport in an area of water meadow where a boy drowned in the mud under a collapsed scrum.
    • I was wondering if they were ever going to fix the boardwalk over the pond in Dulwich Park.
