El Dude
Terroirs is a fantastic restaurant with great food, wine and atmosphere. G&B had an interesting wine selection and the space was nice but the food wasn't great, the atmosphere lacking and the service patchy at best - probably a few of the reasons why it didn't survive. The new place will be a success and offer a proper alternative to the Palmerston and Franklins. Prices will be a little higher but it is generally an affluent area and should be able to support it - just a surprise that it has taken so long for such a place to come along. Just like good restaurants and prefer them to be local - nice to get something new! Alternatives are very nice but I would welcome more something that catered for a larger demographic rather than focussing on the more conspicuous 'affluent'. The long established local folk deserve decent value for their buck. Re: chains - generally don't do them, but had something to eat at a Carluccio's this week. A big thumbs up and they have an entire gluten free menu. For a chain, they seem to be getting it right. simonethebeaver
Locale is a chain. GBK is a chain. Oddonos is a mini-chain. I think there'll be more opening. If you look at Clapham/Battersea the pattern is good quality independents, including Soif, and the slightly higher end chains.
