davidh
they are having a garage sale this morning, flogging off all the cups and saucers, etc. one of the guys working inside said a new "modern english restaurant" would open in mid april. thank goodness the place will spring back to life and not remain dark. spanners45
Dare I say it was quite badly managed and underwhelming. I walked in and just saw a guy who seemed to be in charge grabbing items off someone's arms saying 'no, not for sale; not that either; not those'. Why not mark things that are not on sale; or even better not have them on display. I was put off by the poor attitude. Popular though so hope they sold the stuff they wanted. pearcesa
I'd love it if it was Ottolenghi, they do the most divine salads and cakes. :)EDmummy Wrote:-------------------------------------------------------> PSJ Wrote:> --------------------------------------------------> -----> > Could it be a new branch of Ottolenghi?> > All my dreams coming true! Sophie1981
It's going to be a restaurant that's more food focused (rather than the wines being the central focus aa before) that's what I was told, as I asked what it would be when I went earlier to the sale Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/30964-activity-in-the-green-and-blue-premises/#findComment-632750 Share on other sites

numbers
it would hardly be an Ottolenghi if there's any truth in the 'modern english restaurant' rumour.I can see it now....'The East Dulwich Chop House' 'The East Dulwich Oyster Bar & Grill' 'ED Brasserie/Bistro/Kitchen+whatever' etc etc. Complete with quintessentially english, no-nonsense menu of faggots, game, ox cheeks, rhubarb jelly & crumble. davidh
the guy in charge said it would not be modern english... just modern cuisine with the accent on food, rather than in its last incarnation Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/30964-activity-in-the-green-and-blue-premises/#findComment-632835 Share on other sites

davidh
the modern english "rumour" was something I posted, heaving been minsinformed by one of the painters. I was later told by the owner (and our new next door neighbour) that it would be a "modern" menu. presumably a new chef's take. must say, I am looking forward to finding out. Vikki O
Apparently it's going to be a wine bar with a small but impressive restaurant menu so not too dissimilar to G&B Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/30964-activity-in-the-green-and-blue-premises/#findComment-632869 Share on other sites

Gerrard
G&B was really good for a number of years, but I walked out of there twice in its final 12 months as they had nothing on their 'improved' and later 'expanded' menus to tempt me with. I hope the new place offers something different and doesnt make the same mistakes its predecessor did. Louisa
Think we need something more practical like a Greggs or BK. We don't need another pretentious independent shop to add to the rest of the shops aimed at only a small niche middle-class price range. Louisa. Sophie1981
Can't wait for this new place to open so we can try it out! There's plenty of horrible BK's in London already, why anyone would want one in ED I'm not too sure. El Pibe
It's from the people who brought us Terroir and Brawn, so jolly exciting.G&Bs demise was sad, I think their troubles took their toll over the years and the final incarnation got the focus all wrong.
