Just to warn anyone who is expecting deliveries from Amazon etc to make sure to tell the courier firms to leave in a safe place if you are going to be out as one of our neighbours had 3 Amazon parcels taken from her doorstep. She found the empty boxes at the end of the road!

The delivery drivers often don't ring our bell even when we are in but just leave stuff outside.

I'm sorry to see this is still an issue. I came home to a parcel delivery recently where the driver had attempted to hide it by propping up my front door mat against the box. The box was about 24x24 inches so that was as pointless as just leaving the box on top of the mat. Luckily I got home in time.
  • 2 weeks later...

Today I had a delivery?? a quiet knock on the door & the guy jumped in his van ready to drive off.

Luckily I was home & saw the box upon opening my door. The driver didn?t turn back to check the parcel had been collected!

Now imagine if I hadn?t been home or heard the door??? my instructions clearly state to leave the parcel with any neighbour if I?m not in!

Then, around 6.15pm, I think it may have been no 7 whateley

I witnessed an Amazon guy dropping parcels to doors not waiting for an answer, just dropping knocking &running off as he was double parked holding back a bus from getting through!

I?m not sure if the recipient took their parcel or it was just left for someone else to run off with 😠

If I have time over the weekend I will call Amazon explaining what happened to me & what I witnessed today.

I could easily say I didn?t receive my parcel & they will never know any different!

It?s really disgusting that peoples parcels are getting stolen, the company need to give their drivers more time or whatever it is they need to ensure parcels are delivered correctly & safely!

Hello just had parcel theft Lordship Lane. Amazon left package propped against front door in full view of road. Guy on bike in New York Yankees baseball cap. Have very good picture. Has anyone had any luck getting police interested?

Yes, someone in our road had a parcel stolen, someone else subsequently got a picture,  and the police came out but unfortunately didn't catch him

Definitely report it to the police, with the picture. This is happening all over the place at the moment.

Some people elsewhere are filling old Amazon boxes with rubbish or worse, taping them up and leaving them on their doorsteps to be taken 🤣

Well that's made my day Sue.

Used nappies were in at least one, I believe.

Dogs may also have been involved.

Unfortunately they tend to follow the delivery drivers around so it's easy pickings for them.

We had one taken and he had to have been tipped off where the parcel would be as it was in a very odd position but the thief knew exactly where to take it from and then brazenly opened the box put the contents in his rucksack and threw the box on the pavement before riding off on his bike.

Sorry to hear that Rockets, that's a scummy thing to have dome to you.

Sue - that cannot have been a pleasant experience for the thief opening that parcel. Perhaps they'll think twice before nicking other peoples parcels. The police are non existent and don't seem to care, London is becoming lawless. They keep on pushing up council tax or at least the Mayor does on his bit, saying its for the Police, but things don't get better. London is probably currently stab and shooting capital in the world. Its terrible.

I try to do everything I can to avoid all parcel deliveries, preferring to collect myself. Unfortunately some "businesses" especially this year are doing more and more by parcel delivery with no click and collect available.

Violent crime in London is very low compared with much of Europe, America and the rest of the world.

Petty crime as in phone thefts, amazon thefts etc is a very different matter

As I said above, the police do care, and have come out to try to catch one of the parcel thieves.

It is ridiculous to say that London is becoming lawless. Get a grip 🙄

They know they can get away with it, no deterrent exists to stop them, no police, no justice system capable of dealing with them.

London is becoming lawless just look at the epidemic that is knife and gun crime, almost every week, only recently it was in Sydenham, its everywhere. I don't even feel safe anymore, constantly checking who is around me, keeping a distance from unwanted hands.

I didn't make a personal attack-I said Jazzer was deluded...meaning wrong.  He was factually very wrong and has repeated his assertions on this thread and this is akin to spreading false information

Oh come on, DELUDED, really?

And spreading false information, now that is out of order, perhaps you want to retract your comments, because I am neither deluded nor have I ever spread false information as you have said publicly about me.

Looking forward to reading your apology and retraction.

Lawless is definitely an exaggeration but petty vexations caused by inconsiderate behaviour is definitely there and police/bus drivers/train crew, etc. (who witness such annoyances more often than most) tend to ignore the louts (of all shapes and sizes) whose low-level but still upsetting actions (swearing, acting out, smoking or vaping, playing loud music or conversations on phones) abound.

Show me some evidence that shows that "London is probably the stabbing and shooting capital of the world" and " that there is an epidemic of knife and gun crime in London"  and I shall certainly apologise and retract

Certainly part of what you quoted are not my words, And;

errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr, just watch the daily London News shows, read the headlines on news websites, so much goes unreported as it is accepted as a reality of daily life.

That hasn't answered PeckhamPan's  request for evidence to support the statements  you made previously, has it?

Probably because you haven't got any 🤣

Edited by Sue

Is this an interagation, because it is beginning to feel like it is, answers, answers you demand, I am not wasting my time trolling around for evidence, its a feeling living in London, seeing the blue tape, the white tents where a death has occurred unnaturally in the street, the road, the park, it can happen anywhere, just read the papers and watch the news, open your eyes because crime at all levels is close by to all of us.

I think Jazzer is quite properly backing off-he can't be bothered with evidence but admits a feeling.  He may wish to back off further after looking at these figures from a report by UCL at the end of 2022 which was a benchmarking comparison of crimes around the world

The figures are homicides per 100,000 inhabitants  - Milan and Rome have the fewest and then comes London.  The report notes that most US cities have a much higher rate, and surprisingly (to me) Asian cities tend to come in lower.

Barcelona
(3.1)
Berlin (2.9)
London (1.4)
Madrid (1.9)
Milan (0.7)
Paris (1.7)
Rome (1.3)

I think this is the first time I have ever bothered to take issue with what is posted on the forum but I feel strongly about the issue of people throwing untruths about.  Vulnerable people read things like Jazzer wrote and curtail their lives out of fear.  Fear brings mistrust of other people and so it goes on.

No, I said wasn't wasting my time sifting and getting evidence to please you and Sue. Pls don't twist or mis-represent my words.

So it's gone from "spreading false information" to now "throwing untruths about", a polite way of saying lying???

You cannot bare to hear the truth. If London wasn't lawless the police would attend far more incidents but they don't and don't care about the consequences. They just clear up the mess.

Your stas are for homicides - deaths per 100,000, that is such a wide range and lazy quoting of data

"What is the knife crime rate in London 2024?

Key Knife Crime Statistics at a Glance

Nearly 50,000 serious knife crimes were recorded in England from July 2023 to June 2024. London has the highest rate of serious knife crimes, at 17.89 offences per 10,000 people.

How many stabbings in London per year?

The number of knife or sharp instrument offences recorded by the police in London rose to approximately 15,016 in 2023/24, compared with 12,786 in the previous year. This was the highest number of knife crime offences reported in London since 2019/20, when there were 15,928 offences

Which London borough has the most stabbings?

Westminster is the area in which the highest number of knife crime offences, including stabbing and personal robberies, was recorded this past year. The Metropolitan Police recorded 1,007 knife crime offences in Westminster over the past 12 months, compared to 802 in Croydon and 743 in Newham.

There were 1,085 firearm offences recorded in London 2022/23, compared with 1,071 in 2021/22, which was the year with the fewest firearm offences in the provided time period. Compared with previous years, there were far fewer offences in 2020/21 and 2021/22, which may have been due to the lockdowns brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic"

These figures are of course shocking but are restricted to London and the UK. Without the context of like for like statistics for other global cities they do not provide evidence for your assertion that

London is lawless.

The amount of brazen shoplifting that goes on is appalling.

The police do nothing about it  we just pay the cost in our own shopping bills.

Gun crime is also very problematic after the recent early release of some very bad people.

    • I think it's possible to view several of the mistakes labour has made as "not good" without it equalling a disaster I know there is a narrative out there that this will play into Reform hands - but  you would have to look at all of the major issues and think Reform would do a better job. No sane person could think that.  And then there is the obvious problem with Farage - people don't like him. Oh I know in some heartlands he has a big enough core - but the country as a whole? Nah I think labour are being clumsy in some areas, wrong in others, deeply dissapointing in some cases - and yet even before they were elected I knew most of this was likely - just because of the  size of the problems facing the country  (and I still reckon most people haven't quite grasped how bad things are after 14 years)  coupled with the fact that labour talent pool is  mid-table at best, compared with New Labour years.  All still HUGELY more desirable than what we have had previously tho
