numbers
when I first moved to the big bright lights of this majestic city, I remember my astonishment at seeing a bloke on the tube (hammersmith & city line, if you must know), carelessly discarding pistachio shells all over the adjacent seats and floor of the carriage as he nonchalantly popped each nut into his mouth one by one. Fucker. now its more, give me pistachio shells over stinky fast food wrappers any day of the week. ps applying lipstick is of course, fine. mascara, not so. uncleglen
Reminded me of the immaculately dressed young lady on the Northern Line (Bank Branch) two weeks ago. She ate a banana in the most ladylike manner then stuck the skin on the window shelf. It was the first time in a long time, in my experience, that her fellow travellers made eye contact with each other! giggirl
I'm always fascinated by woman applying make-up. There's a zen to it, an art. Why let yourself get wound up over something so innocuous?Sometimes in the morning I lie in bed listening to the birds and I think "shut the fuck up". Then I catch myself and I laugh and I get up. Anything in this world will annoy you if you let it. I once checked into an expensive hotel room and my first thought was "what's that noise, they've put me next to the boiler room or something, I'm compaining to the manager about that". It turned out that the noise was the ocean doing its thing under my window. Don't sweat the small stuff. Ask yourself what's going on with you that something so insignificant pushes your buttons. giggirl
Not really Mr Jack. Nail varnish stinks in an enclosed space with no windows open. Genuinely makes me gag. There's the difference. Conversely, if said floozy were to give herself or himself (equal opportunities) a makeover, then that's entertainment. LondonMix
I agree with GG-- can't see how it impacts on anyone. As far as offensive things people do on public transport, the only things that wind me up are:1. Tinny music2. People who put their feet up on seats3. Eating smelly food 4. Leaving garbage of any kind about5. Applying nail polish (smelly)6. Taking drugs (have actually seem people shooting up on the train at Peckham Rye in the not so distant past) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/30711-gross-women/page/13/#findComment-633005 Share on other sites

Louisa
I love how the earlier argument from some about it being 'a personal gripe and not something that affects anyone for any other reason' has gone out of the window again. Just ban it. Makes a far more pleasant experience. Why not have bouncers on every train and bus to police it too? Would certainly expand the economy. Louisa. LondonMix
Indeed. I can't see anyone backing away from the original point anyway which was it doesn't really affect anyone. Nail polish of course is different but I don't really see people doing that on the way to work. midivydale
Guilty of applying makeup on transport at times - sorry for any offence caused.I saw a woman CLIPPING HER NAILS on the train though and found that revolting. uncleglen
Word of warning on the nailpolish whilst on the move. Holding the bottle and brush in one hand and trying to paint the nails could result in forgetting you have the bottle in your hand as you concentrate on using the brush and end up tipping nail varnish all over your clothes. I saw this on a bus- red varnish all over a beige skirt is not a pretty sight!
