It is difficult to understand why someone would leave a load of mouldy bread by the lake in Peckham rye park. The birds won?t touch it and it only serves to endanger the wellbeing of unfortunate dogs who cannot resist their scavenging tendencies. My dog is one such and required an expensive purge at the vets in order secure his safety from mycotoxic poisoning. Very annoying.

I saw a similar incident a couple of years ago. A couple came along with a black bin bag full of bread that was thick with blue mould and stank. They just emptied it over the railings and walked off. I thought it was most strange, as it isn't hard to get rid of food waste in Southwark, so walking half way across Peckham Rye Park to get rid of it seemed unnecessary. But they didn't hang around to see the ducks eat the bread either. Very strange.
Think there are several people who dump bread en mass on the Rye and in the park. Have reported to the park ranger's office in the past. They told me they are aware but hard to act on. Many of the feeders have personal issues that compel them to do this. One particular guy drives around several local parks 'feeding' the birds... I have a greedy dog, so far no harm but will check for mycotoxic poisoning.
