We have recently had our loft converted and a bathroom renovated by Sky high builders and I would thoroughly recommend them.

The entire team is lovely, every one of them went the extra mile. They are happy to approach designs and problems creatively which means we have achieved a loft exactly as we were after (easier said than done).

We were working to a tight budget and they came in pretty much on budget. The main extras were unavoidable repairs to our house that were genuinely unforseeable on the builders part.

Marvin is very hands on and is always available, always responds to phone calls and on site often (he has a couple of teams) overseeing and making sure it is being done as he wanted it, re-doing even in some circumstances where he was not happy with it!

I would highly recommend Sky High Builders. I searched for reputable builders on the Forum and Sky High Builders came with very positive reviews of their work. I had a loft conversion completed that wasn't straight forward, Marvin along with his team approached the difficulties, they fully engaged me every step of the way. Marvin was always on site managing the job, I felt confident in what they were doing to my home. The results were stunning!

Unfortunately we would not recommend Marvin. We've had a very mixed experience with him. He started off brilliantly, very polite and helpful, offering us suggestions about materials and design. We were due to start on a Friday and on Wednesday he e-mailed, not even called, letting us know our project had to be postponed because one of his men had had an accident. He had no idea when he could do the work. This we could understand, but after a few days of hearing nothing we started to chase for a new date for our project.

After a few emails and calls he wrote to us with a tentatively date, 8 weeks after the original start date. By this point we have a bath, toilets, basins and doors laying around in our house, but even with this we were OK, but in that very e-mail with the new date, he announced he was to charge ?500 for protecting our floors and he was not to held responsible for any damages while moving materials in and out of the house. He offered to make good if there were any damages, but we were to pay for this.

Even to this we replied offering to split the difference for protecting floors, since we felt it was unfair to spring into us this very last minute bill, plus it seem rather a lot. We also accepted his offer to charge us for making good of their own damages to our house when moving materials, but we suggested to set a cap on these repair costs, and anything over this he should take responsibility for.

We heard nothing back. It has been 3 weeks since then. Just completely rude and unprofessional.

What exactly did he say he'd do for the ?500? Is there anything special about your floors?

Marvin did a loft conversion for us a few years ago. We arranged ourselves for the carpet to be taken up beforehand, and then Marvin taped some cardboard down to the wooden floor in the hall. That worked fine for us.

And to be fair, it's a small operation, so if one of his guys cannot work then that is going to throw a serious spanner in the works! But I know that's probably no consolation in your position.

Sorry to hear about your experience on_the_hill. Marvin and his team did an amazing loft job for us several years ago. I have nothing but praise for his professionalism and the end result. We had our wooden floors covered same as Jeremy and had no issue paying for the time cost and materials.

I am still in the process of having work done, but from my experience so far, I can't recommend Sky High builders enough. The price is reasonable, the team is friendly, very hard working and thorough, and the boss, Marvin, knows his stuff inside out, and is a pleasure to deal with.

We just had a kitchen extension done by Marvin & Nic from Sky High builders and we couldn't be happier.

It was a 5 month job, with us living in the house throughout with a new baby and toddler, half the back of the house was ripped off though the winter, we expected it to be a nightmare, but they were so brilliant, they made it hardly stressful at all.

And the end result - with bifold doors and sky lights etc - looks stunning.

You can get 10 quotes, but they all end up being about the same in the end, so best to spend your money with a good bloke you can trust.

If you want to do your kitchen or loft, definitely call Marvin on 07966189754.

We have just had an absolutely superb experience with Sky High Builders, who have built our stunning new loft bedroom and ensuite.

Marvin project managed the build for us and nothing was too much trouble for him. He managed everything brilliantly from start to finish. His level of customer service is second to none and he genuinely cares about doing an impeccable job. If Marvin wasn't among the team working on site that day, he made sure he was there every morning to inform about the progress of the build. Marvin's motto is "the client's always right" and he will do all he can to ensure his clients are happy with the job. He had some brilliant ideas for the design of our loft, and as a result we have a stunning and unique new space.

In terms of the quality of the build, the team at Sky High have very high standards, which was just what we were after as I confess to being a bit of a perfectionist. All the team take great pride in doing a good job and they are all a delight to have around on site.

Every step of the way my husband and I felt so thankful we'd taken on Sky High for the job. They really care about what they do and they really want to go above and beyond expectations.

We have the most beautiful bedroom and ensuite and it's all thanks to Sky High's high standards of workmanship and Marvin's great design ideas. We really can't praise Marvin and his team high enough. This is the third building job we've done on our house and Sky High are leagues ahead of the other companies we used. They are incredibly professional.

We are happy to give a reference over the phone - please PM me for details.

I can also recommend Marvin and his team at Sky High Builders. Marvin designed and built my loft conversion last year and I was very impressed with both the quality of the work as well as Marvin's input in the design stage in addition to his problem solving on the job. Marvin was very responsive and really goes the extra mile to make sure that the build is up to his standards. His team are highly skilled and very polite.

I have recommended Marvin to a lot of my friends and they have also been impressed. I have also asked Marvin to start work on more renovations starting soon.

Marvin was heavily involved throughout the design process and helped me to choose certain tiles and bits of furniture. The house was kept as tidy as possible. Marvin went above and beyond during the build, for example getting 9 men on site to get the bath up the narrow stairs. I am thrilled with the end product. Happy to answer direct queries regarding the work.

I would also recommend Marven and his Sky High Builders team. Marven has done my loft, Kitchen extension and a number of other smaller projects including a bike shed since I moved here 4 years ago. The work is always done to a really high standard and as Oscar_R says Marven is onsite to over see the work extremely regularly. The team are all charming and I have always felt very comfortable having them in the house, which is a really important factor for a single Mum!

The other really important aspect is that every effort is made to clear up at the end of the day. If there are any problems, (and in old houses these are normally due to the existing structures) Marven or his team are back onsite immediately to sort it out. I can't imagine having building work done by anyone else now.

Highly recommended sky highbuilders.Marvin and his team are exceptional professionals. They recently renovated my family house, loft conversion with ensuite and additional room. Extended kitchen and knocked out the old one, removed previous extension, dug up the back garden to find war shelter which was super challenge. Plenty rendering and building walls & steel placements, replace floors and roof much more. Explaining the structure process, the visual capabilities of each rooms and cultivating designs, source expertise in all aspects of colours specifications. Outstanding quality of aftercare, highlighting features that show the house had evolved. So thankful for the guidance & support hardworking professional team who deliver quality. The transformation is beyond all I hoped for, this was no ordinary project. The whole house was gutted and transformed, can?t wait show those I love the beauty of the spaces & design I see everyday.

Got Marvin and his team to do my dormer and much more and didn't regret it. Building jobs are always complicated...what makes the critical difference (apart from honest prices and good work) is quick and clear communication. Marvin responds quickly to queries and suggestions, usually within minutes.

Marvin and his team did our kitchen extension in East Dulwich (June - September 2020), and were terrific from start to finish. The job was on completed on time, which was a massive effort given the difficulties of the lockdown. It was also on budget; Marvin was very clear from the initial quote and all the way through the job on costings which was extremely helpful (we?ve found other companies to be fairly opaque on quotes for jobs).

The quality of the finish is excellent - Marvin and his team clearly take real pride in their work. Marvin was always available on the phone to discuss, and was personally on site daily to check on progress and that we were happy with how the job was proceeding.

Finally, Marvin and his team (Dave, Alvin and John in particular, but the whole team) were a real pleasure to deal with - while he?s deadly serious when it comes to achieving a quality result (and on time), he?s very focused too on taking the stress out of doing building works on your house and we had a laugh throughout the job. That made a massive difference.

Would certainly recommend Sky High Builders and for whatever we next need doing we will definitely pick up the phone to Marvin.

Marvin and his team have recently completed roofing, pointing, plastering and painting work for me and I would always highly recommend Sky High Builders for their reliability and quality of service and workmanship.

They previously did a loft extension for me 6 years ago (when they did a fantastic job)and I have used them on several occasions since.

Marvin is a great communicator and is always thorough in his explanations and presentation of evidence which really helps in the decision-making process. This time, the roofing and pointing work was absolutely essential and urgent. Marvin was able to respond to this urgency by getting all the right people there quickly and then completed the job within the shortest time but still to the highest quality. Marvin was available to personally check on the progress of the job and regularly communicate this to me. As far as I'm concerned, this was an amazing achievement during this time of restrictions and lockdowns.

Everyone who works for Sky High Builders is hard-working, skilled and friendly and I will definitely be using them in the future.

Sky High Builders did my side return extension and house renovation (including new bathroom and new electrics) in May 2021 in Peckham. Overall it was a great experience and I would highly recommend Marvin and his team. Marvin is a experienced builder and all the work was completed to a v high standard. Marvin is a proactive communicator and was transparent on cost and timeframes leading to a pretty smooth process. Marvin?s team are also v friendly and the tradesman than he utilizes for specialist areas (for us screeder and flat roofer) were both v professional. As such if you have a similar project in the area I would definitely recommend getting in touch with Sky High builders!

Marvin and his team did a fantastic job relocating and installing a new bathroom, a new staircase and a few other smaller jobs.

Marvin was extremely professional, friendly, easy to deal with and communication was excellent throughout. He kept us well informed of timeframes and cost so when the build took a bit longer than expected we knew there was good reason. Everything was done to a very high standard including some very custom design requests and Marvin did a great job keeping the site very clean and ensuring the disruption was kept to a minimum. I would highly recommend Sky High builders.

Sky High Builders did an absolutely exceptional job on my property which required complete renovation in a very short turnaround time. Against the odds, my children and I were able to move into our beautifully finished new home, six weeks after the project began. I have no idea how Marvin and his team pulled it off, but the level of professionalism, responsiveness and attention to detail was exceptional - particularly impressive given the numerous structural elements to the work, including knocking through rooms, kitchen and bathroom replacement, and overseeing plumbing, heating and electrics. Marvin also has a deep-seated understand of the the local housing market and an aesthetic eye - invaluable pluses. Outstanding service all round.

Just had some repointing done by Marvin and his team. Really efficient, completed to a high standard and all for a reasonable price, can't recommend sky high enough.

Marvin is an absolute gent! He couldn't be easier to deal with and communicated throughout the whole process so we were always up to speed with proceedings.

    • Does anyone know when the next SNT meeting is? I am fed up with my son being mugged on East Dulwich Grove!
    • The issue must be everywhere at the moment. I was visiting a friend last week in Bermondsey, think we were walking  down Linton Rd & we dodged 7 dog poos. It was disgusting.
    • Thanks for your message — I actually took the time to look into what CityHive does before posting my original comment, and I’d encourage anyone with questions to do the same. Yes, the Companies House filings are overdue — but from what I’ve gathered, this seems likely to be an accountant or admin issue, not some sign of ill intent. A lot of small, community-based organisations face challenges keeping up with formalities, especially when they’re focused on immediate needs like food distribution. Let’s not forget CityHive is a not-for-profit, volunteer-powered CIC — not a corporate machine. As for the directors, people stepping down or being replaced is often about capacity or commitment — which is completely normal in the voluntary and community sector. New directors are sometimes appointed when others can no longer give the time. It doesn’t automatically mean bad governance — it just means people’s circumstances change. CityHive’s actual work speaks volumes. They buy most of the food they distribute — fresh produce, essential groceries, and shelf-stable items — and then deliver it to food banks, soup kitchens, and community projects across London. The food doesn’t stay with CityHive — it goes out to local food hubs, and from there, directly to people who need it most. And while yes, there may be a few paid staff handling logistics or admin, there’s a huge volunteer effort behind the scenes that often goes unseen. Regular people giving their time to drive vans, sort donations, load pallets, pack food parcels — that’s what keeps things running. And when people don’t volunteer? Those same tasks still need to be done — which means they have to be paid for. Otherwise, the whole thing grinds to a halt. As the need grows, organisations like CityHive will inevitably need more support — both in people and funding. But the bigger issue here isn’t one small CIC trying to make ends meet. The real issue is the society we live in — and a government that isn’t playing its part in eradicating poverty. If it were, organisations like CityHive, The Felix Project, City Harvest, FareShare, and the Trussell Trust wouldn’t need to exist, let alone be thriving. They thrive because the need is growing. That’s not a reflection on them — it’s a reflection on a broken system that allows people to go hungry in one of the richest cities in the world. If you're in doubt about what they’re doing, go check their Instagram: @cityhivemedia. You’ll see the real organisations and people receiving food, sharing thanks, and showing how far the impact reaches. Even Southwark Foodbank has received food from CityHive — that alone should speak volumes. So again — how does any of this harm you personally? Why spend time trying to discredit a group trying to support those who are falling through the cracks? We need more people lifting others up — not adding weight to those already carrying the load.
    • Well, this is very disappointing. Malabar Feast  has changed its menu again. The delicious fish curry with sea bass no longer exists. There is now a fish dish with raw mango, which doesn't appeal. I had dal and spinach instead, which was bland (which I suppose I could/should have predicted). One of my visitors had a "vegetable Biriani" which contained hardly any vegetables. Along with it came two extremely tiny pieces of poppadom in a large paper bag.   This was embarrassing, as I had been singing Malabar's praises and recommending we ordered from there. The other mains and the parathas were OK, but I doubt we will be ordering from there again. My granddaughters wisely opted for Yard Sale pizzas, which were fine. Has anybody else had a similar recent poor (or indeed good!)  experience at Malabar Feast?
