youandiaredominoes
Hi everyoneI want to be able to watch catch up tv on my tv via a blu ray player. Currently I have a Sony one but only had bbc iplayer and 5od.I need to have at least Bbc iplayer, Netflix, 4odLove film, itv and 5od are optional Can anyone recommend a blu ray player or similar device which will do the job? My friend has a Sony ps3 which has most of these - it's weird that other Sony blu ray players don't have the same function.Any suggestions more than welcomeMany thanks! ratty
Sony blu ray players do not have the processing power necessary to decode the very complicated encryption that Netflix uses in the uk apparently, hence why it is more widely available on consoles. I am in the same position as you, so if you do find a solution please keep me posted. youandiaredominoes
Just phoned John Lewis - apparently all Samsung blu ray players will have Bbc iplayer, Netflix and 4odHowever, they are sold out of most devices (except for the expensive recorders) but they are bringing in new stock and releases in April/may. Other retailers are available... TillieTrotter
Get yourself an X box. You can play blu ray dvds, get internet, netflix, lovefilm, you tube and so much more, it's an awesome piece of kit. ruffers
X Box won't play BluRay but does the rest. Given you already have a player though it might well be the best solution.I got one of these players recently which is brilliant, has Netflix integrated but doesn't have 4od - http://www.richersounds.com/product/1-box-home-cinema-systems/panasonic/scbtt590/pana-scbtt590 Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/30455-blu-ray-player-for-bbc-iplayer-4od-and-netflix/#findComment-628058 Share on other sites
TillieTrotter
Oops, my mistake. I've got a blu ray player that has Netflix etc installed but rarely use it as the xbox seems to cover most things. Sorry for misinformation.
