Getting to Gatwick early in the morning

I have to be at Gatwick at 5:30am from ED and wondered if anyone had any strokes of genius about getting there.

Too early for anything PT wise other than the outrageously priced Gatwick Express, so wot Mick said. Or go down the night before late and get a pod to sleep in

Taxi to East Croydon (can't be more than ?20 surely) then ?4.90 on the 05.02 FCC service arriving 05.21 ?

You could also get the first 197 bus at 04.44 to East Croydon (arr. 05.20), then the 05.28 FCC service arriving 05.44

There's a new Premier Inn directly across the road from the North Terminal now (walk up the travelator and you are at the shuttle station) and rooms were ?55 a night when I was there in Jan.
