Hi EDF-ers!!!

Sad to report that the daily newspapers are already going wrong again? after just only 3 or 4 weeks.

Last Monday there were NO newspapers at all at 1400. No explanation, no apology, no information.

Today - inexplicably - no Daily Mirror.

No explanation, no apology, no concern by staff. Just ?it wasn?t in the delivery?.

Two failures in one week? Maybe chase up the supplier? Maybe that?s way over dramatic!

Wonder if Southwark council - that is you & me - the taxpayers are still being billed for literally, well, nothing? Send your answers in on a postcard, don?t even waste EDF server data storage!!!

Maybe local government Southwark are trying to match the Boris government at national level. Dysfunctional, unaccountable, ineffective, inconsistent & unable to achieve even the simplest thing. (Disclaimer: Last sentence is a ?Personal opinion?).

Oh no, how terrible. It?s a sign of the times, what with WW3 breaking out and all. How did you survive no Daily Mirror for a day and worse still the poor hapless staff not falling on their knees with apologies before a tax payer. I really feel for you, the world is so unjust

👍👍👍👍

😂😂😂😂

Bit of a waste of the EDF this discussion tho? if a missing Daily Mirror is the worst someone encounters in a South London library in 2022, then it?s passed me by that we have achieved utopia. 🤪

Maybe I?ve missed something about this post!

Are you for real?

Can I disagree with this in principle? A democracy needs a well informed public. Someone who read the range of newspapers available in most public libraries would have the opportunity to be well informed. I think that important.

Sometimes it feels like the Thought Police are monitoring and posting on this forum.

What's wrong with expecting that a service provided by Southwark libraries should actually be provided reliably.

What's trivial to one person may be important to another and shouldn't it be ok to state a view seemingly trivial or otherwise without being patronised?

Do you think a diktat could possibly have been issued?

The accounts are usually open for public inspection for a period during the annual audit. That's usually in the summer.

In the meantime, have you emailed the office, if your interrogation methods have failed with the on-site staff?

For some people, leaving their home once a day to read a free daily newspaper in their local library can be an emotional and/or physical lifeline, so think beyond the headline.

Luckily in the UK we are free to choose the type of mogul-sponsored press-releases drivel that has become of the British so-called media (aka ?cut and paste the press-release machinery). But that?s a different thread. In China, for example, there is just one type of state sponsored drivel, so count your blessings that in the UK we can chose from a wide range of press release drivel.

You'd have thought so... 🤣

    • I've not posted any restaurant reviews here for a while, but with the long Easter weekend approaching I thought I'd serve an update. I recently reviewed The Palmerston and elsewhere became involved in a debate about the best pub lunch in SE22. So which ones do people here currently rate?  Yes I know people can just do a search for "Best pub lunch" but as well as new eateries popping up all the time two of the places I've reviewed – EDT and Bishop – have had a reboot since I reviewed them so I'm interested in hearing how they are doing now. FYI I'm still not charging people to read my reviews or subscribe (though they can pay if they are inclined) and I still haven't had any cease and desist letters from other food people who have used the word "Eats" in their name. And I put a lot of work into these reviews. They aren't just a couple of dashed off sentences saying what is good/bad. When not doing this for fun I'm a professional journalist. If people want to nitpick and be pedantic I'll just have to learn to live with it. https://eatsdulwich.substack.com/
    • Have there been any happy outcomes yet?  I was reminded of this thread by Kate Bradbury's two minute Tweet of the Day spot, on swifts and swift boxes, on Radio 4 recently.  She even plays their calls out of her window in the hope of attracting them.  https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m0029yp8 Coincidentally, last week I came across a planning condition attached to the permission (24/AP/3592) granted to the old Melbourne Grove GP premises, that they install "no less than four bee bricks."  They're specifically for so-called solitary bees, who seem to be regarded as equally busy and deserving.  Kate B. mentioned that Brighton now attaches a similar condition, requiring swift boxes in all new-builds.  Might Southwark be doing so too?
