Blue plaque?

Does anyone know how much it costs to get one of those commemorative blue plaques on your house? I know Alexander Fleming discovered penicillium in London - and when I bought my house the vendors send someone noteworthy lived there in the past - so I could be eligible for a plaque?

I believe you apply for them through English Heritage, they have criteria you need to meet and then they consider whether to award one or not

Is there actually anything to stop you just making your own and sticking it on your own house ?

Nothing at all as long as you don?t use an English heritage logo etc I don?t imagine. From a quick look you can pay between ?15 and ?150?

Thanks, but I want an official one. My period house is large since it was extended and Alexander Fleming must have lived too in a large period house in London - it could have been my house, so I could well be eligible to be plaqued.

The plaque people said you can?t just get one when I called them. There has to be verifiable proof the esteemed person lived at the property. That?s seems a bit stringent?
