Tom McCrae
Landcroft Road today at15:30 It took the wood pigeon out in flight hit the glass doors and start to pluck it. It?s not bothered by being filmed from only 5foot away. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/303690-peregrine-falcon/ Share on other sites

exdulwicher
It's a sparrowhawk. Peregrines have dark eyes, sparrowhawks have yellow eyes with a black pupil.Good pics though, great to see it so close up! Sue
Amazing 😮Years ago I heard a terrible noise in my garden and it was a bird of prey catching (and carrying off) a starling.I used to get loads of starlings in my garden, and I haven't seen a single one since then 😭 Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/303690-peregrine-falcon/#findComment-1565632 Share on other sites
hammerman
Article today in the Southwark News 'Astounding number of birds sighted in Burgess Park in 2021' Because of the parks open spaces and lake settings there have been over 85 species of birds visiting the park, some coming from as far away as Siberia and Africa. A frequent visitor was the Peregrine Falcon, which can often be seen flying over the park looking for their next meal. I've got to know a lot of birds in my garden, including the humble Wood Pigeon and would hate to see the video. raasaygirl
I wonder if the peregrine falcon in Burgess Park was one of the pair who nest on the Salvation Army tower at Denmark Hill.I went for a tour with the resident orthnithologist at the Battersea Tower Station development recently. They had to build a lattice tower (v expensive) as a temporary nest for the pair of peregrines there, until the building work is complete...they have raised their chicks on there for a few years but are going to be relocated back to the tower building very soon.If they decide to sit on a crane, work has to stop!Their main diet is pigeons and parakeets.
