Peckhamgatecrasher
I think hooters in Lordship Lane should be more effectively employed. I love making pedestrians jump. SimonM
I have nothing against americans. Most I have met both here and in the USA and elsehwere have been charming and friendly. I could draw up a long list of, say, american writers I like - Gore Vidal, Kurt Vonnegut, Joseph Heller etc etc - and film-makers/actors and so on and so forth. It's America the Political Entity and its Empire-building foreign policy I loathe. Moos
I love America, and have enjoyed a number of holidays there. In particular, I think the American tradition of hospitality is delightful, and we could learn from it. However, that doesn't mean that people can't express dismay when American-style culture is imported here, especially if it feels as though there is too much of it. I think there are an awful lot of gifty shops and curry restaurants on Lordship Lane, doesn't mean I don't like either gifty shops or curry restaurants per se.Edited for randomly included unnecessary extra words... like this sentence? SeanMacGabhann
We can reasonably state that the restuarant chain in question is fairly "crappy" regardless of where it comes from tho can't we?I almost don't want to comment on this thread as Alan Dale will near certainly start banging on about me and Americans again If the English chains (Happy Chef! Aberdeen Steak House! the joys.... ) decided to expand across the US and locals there complained about "crappy UK restaurants" I wouldn't take it as being anti-UK... I would just call it sound judgement Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/3033-removed/#findComment-94604 Share on other sites

Peckhamgatecrasher
Sean - some of my finest moments have been in an Aberdeen Angus steak house! Incidentally, does anyone else wonder how those restaurants at Victoria manage to stay open? I don't think I've ever seen a punter in them. They seem to always be full of tourists during the day and then there is the pre/after theatre tourists too.
