I'm in the process of applying for a passport for my 5 month old son, but I've realised my passport is still in my maiden name + my married name is on his birth certificate.

I've tried calling the passport line (no answer) + the Post Office staff in FH all had a different opinion. Does anybody know what name I need to put for myself on the form - maiden name as it appears on my passport or married name as on birth certificate?

I've tried looking on mumsnet etc (I'm guessing this is a fairly common problem), but again information was conflicting.

I'm going to send my marriage certificate off anyway because this has both names on it.

Thanks x

Put on the name that you currently use, and include your marriage certificate as you planned. You might get a call from the passport service to clarify the situtation with your name, but that's pretty unlikely. As you said, it's a common enough situation as not many people want to pay for a new passport until the old one expires.
I can't remember it being a problem, as all our children have my husband's surname on their passport while I still have my maiden name. Just a note of caution though if you are going to travel without your husband. Passport control may ask you for proof that the child is yours (as you have different surnames on the passports). I have a copy of our marriage certificate on my phone to show passport officials.
I do not use my married name but was informed by the Passport Office that I had to use it for the passport however since all my accounts and professional certificates are in my former name, the passport office have entered on one page ' Also known as ----' which solves the problem all around. We had seperate passports for our girls so that we both could travel independently with them.
I'm in exactly the same situation and spoke to the passport office. They said I should use the name currently on my passport. As you have to send off your baby's full birth certificate this will have your maiden name on too which should avoid any confusion.

    • Hello lovely people, In need of some help please… My landlord has rented a property to me without an EPC.. my understanding is that is illegal. Have asked several times, in last three months and still not forthcoming. Have asked again plus now leaving at the end of the month & ignoring me totally - even to take meter readings & hand keys back!!! I really don’t want to go to court either but not sure as it is a private let whether I can go for mediation. Deposit was lodged via under govt scheme - 60 days later but at least lodged. No inventory on signing either so, not going to pay for anything either.. Could I bring in local councillor? For advice? Thanks and have a good weekend.
    • Has anyone else found it absolutely impossible to get an appointment at DMC on Crystal Palace Road since they implemented the new “link” system at 8am on a morning ? I was told by the receptionist that all appointments are taken within 15 minutes and it is not possible to book in advance anymore but … wait for it… they are still accepting new patients and there is a HUGE banner outside the surgery advertising this. How can this be allowed when they can’t service their existing patients ? I have left a complaint form but would any other DMC patients like to join forces and see if we can force them to make improvements ?
