James Barber
That 's a tough one because you'll need to travel during the morning rushhour tail.I'd catch a 40 to E&C then a 12 or 148.The 40's have lots of leg/wriggle room upstairs. Kids generally love sitting on the top deck of buses and lots of observation games you can play. Jessie
why not just get the 12 all the way?My son was referred to the same place for the same reason and they were so lovely there - good luck Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/30274-best-way-to-st-thomas-thursday-for-930am/#findComment-626355 Share on other sites
buggie
Depending how keen she is on walking, (and knowing where you are :) )it might be as easy to get the train to Blackfriars (from Nunhead station - it takes 18mins) then walk along the south bank to Tommys - would be about a 20min walk I'd guess, but might be easier and quicker than getting/changing buses during rush hour. Hope all goes well x Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/30274-best-way-to-st-thomas-thursday-for-930am/#findComment-626374 Share on other sites
nikki73
at that time of day i usually take a train to london bridge and then on to waterloo east and walk it from there - 10mn. nunheadmum
Or train Honor Oak to London Bridge and connection to Charing Cross and walk across. Or train to Blackfriars and tube to Embankment. Or train to Elephant and No 12 or No 53 or 453 from there. (I think 53/453 goes across Westminster the same as the 12.)Sorry, love a good 'how to get to.....' test! Turning into a proper londoner! GinaG3
I regularly have to get to St Thomas' for appointments with my consultant. I prefer a 12 all the way there, and I definitely would if I had to take my child with me too. One direct bus, stops right outside the hospital (at the very start of the bridge). I've had to be there at that time on several occasions and find the bus ride absolutely fine, it stops a bit more as there is generally people at EVERY stop but is fine. I had appointment the other day, at Tommys for 9am, I hurried and hurried, missed the bus ended up getting the bus around 8.15am and still got there with 4 minutes to spare. Brilliant. sillywoman
Will be at Tommies for a lecture 9.30 Thursday morning. I can give you a lift on my scooter, but it might be a bit cramped with three of us ;)SWx Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/30274-best-way-to-st-thomas-thursday-for-930am/#findComment-626403 Share on other sites
Growlybear
I go to St Thomas' frequently and I always go all the way on the no 12. If I'm not up to walking to the Plough, I have always been able to park my car just past either the first or second stop in Barry Road. You can always get a seat on the bus getting on so early on in the route, and the journey never takes me more than an hour. The bus stops right outside the hospital on Westminster Bridge. If you want to drive, we have never had problems getting a space in the cark park at St Thomas' at any time of day or night, and it's not particularly expensive, although the hospital is in the congestion charging zone. Dodo1
HiWe need to get to The Evelina for 7am next week. Is there a good value all day car park near by; as I don't really want to park in the hospital car park? Thanks. craigy
I work there. The easiest way is the 12 but you do need to get on around the Barry Road area to guarantee a seat. Probably take up to an hour at that time of day. At 6.30am it takes about 25 mins.I drive there and even in rush hour it only takes half an hour (I go through Peckham and down old Kent road.Parking is not too bad in terms of finding a space in the hospital car park but is ?2.50 or so an hour and you have to pay the congestion charge too. There are othe car parks around but it's still not cheap. Otta
No idea where you live, but if you can get overground, I'd get that to Canada Water, then Jubilee to Westminster. Renata Hamvas
Hi Molly,(knowing you are from Nunhead)train from Nunhead station to Elephant and Castle, (then 12 or 148 is an option if you go via the shopping centre, however long walk). I would suggest with your little one, turn right and go out of the less busy back exit to E & C, turn left walk a short distance to the New Kent Road, turn right onto it and at the bus stop there take the 53 or 453. It's a very short walk from the station to the bus stop.I hope the nasty tonsilitis has gone away soon,Renata Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/30274-best-way-to-st-thomas-thursday-for-930am/#findComment-626839 Share on other sites
stacker285
Dodo1 - there are two car parks opposite STH that are ?12 for all day - I often recommend parents to use them, rather than the hospital car park, as much better value for money, and the car parks are fully supervised. They are under the railway bridges, on upper marsh.
