Hi folks,

I'm pregnant with number 2 and hoping to have my baby at Tommys. Last time I had to go into Waterloo for all my midwife appointments which was fine as I was working, but not so fine this time with a 2 year old in tow...so I've been looking at switching to forest hill group practice (my current surgery only has Lewisham midwives) to have my AN care more locally but just wondered if oakwood midwives will look after St Thomas ladies or if they are just attached to kings?

Thanks

My ONLY issue with kings is that I've heard horror stories about people having to share rooms whilst labouring / labouring in corridors etc....any they're not all urban myths, I have a friend who experienced some of that with all 3 children! I know it could happen at Tommys too but I had my first one there and it just seems familiar enough to want to do it again!

any hospital will have busy periods, which by there very nature are unpredictable.

No sharing rooms, busy corricdors at home. though? If you are classed as low risk then according to the place of birth study you are as safe if not safer staying at home. Second labours can be fast (no guarantees) and traffic to Tommys could lead to you delivering on the road! You need to decide what is right for you though and 9 months is a long time to plan the outcome at the beginning. Good luck whatever you decide

    • Some of my neighbours don’t use or have a food waste caddy nor a brown bin so it’s just in with the green general bin. Sone people from the council came round last year and stuck big stickers on everyone’s green bin saying something like ‘don’t use me for food waste’ but there are some people who are just not bothered. People living in blocks of flats I can understand but even so the council have recently provided big drop off stations outside most blocks.
    • Do please take care - it may be innocent but it's really not worth the risk - there are some sick people out there. We have removed it this morning but there may be more again
    • I haven't used the RHS online shop, however to the best of my knowledge none of the RHS gardens such as Wisley have a nursery (though they may sell plants there) , so whatever plants the RHS are selling will be grown elsewhere. It might be worth trying to find out where they get their retail plants from (it could be several different places, eg one for perennials, one for shrubs) and then googling reviews of those nurseries. I may be wrong, but I'm  not convinced that buying from the RHS necessarily ensures a good plant. I once bought a perennial wallflower (Bowles Mauve) from Kew (not RHS, but you would expect good quality)  which looked fine when I bought it, but didn't last long. I don't think it was due to my neglect, but who knows. It was in a large pot by my front door, where it got a lot of sun, so I have no idea what went wrong. Thanks for the recommendation for Croxted Road. I wonder if they can suggest some plants which I can put in the area  under my bird feeders to deter the wood pigeons, who have transformed a large part of my very small garden into bare earth, and destroyed some treasured plants which I had had for years. Btw I'm sure you know this, but be very careful with Euphorbias. If you get any sap on your skin and it is exposed to sunlight, you will get an absolutely massive blister. I speak from past experience 😭
    • Thanks ianr. That's an interesting book! I see it says side effects are more common after the second dose of Moderna (page 13). I would have booked my jab for another week if I'd known. Kicking myself now. I wonder why this sort of thing isn't more widely publicised. I suppose partly for cost reasons and partly because they don't want to put people off having the jab.
