mysticmark
Was in the pricey, cramped but quite nice Italian L named cafe nr fishmongers yestrday, ahem, and server let on that they get their cakes in. Naively thought they made them on site. My better half says definitely same cakes in nice health shop in W Norwood; anyone know where they come from? Some ar v good and Id like to buy cheaper! Betsy Vickers
This thread is doubtless meant t make Luca's appear to be the bad guys. But the lasting impression I get is off someone who is Scrooge-like and penny-pinching. Incredibly unattractive. Just saying! standswithfist
Not really Betsy Vickers - what's wrong with wanting to get something cheaper? I've in Luca's a few times and I too also think its ridiculously overpriced. I actually thought they made it onsite too. If they don't this would then explain why they are so expensive. spark67
I am not a big fan of Lucas and have had the misfortune on being on the receiving end of the owners bad temper a few years ago, miserable man. But I do know they make their own products, but not on site, think they have a production bakery near the old kent rd somewhere ( so I am told anyway ) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/30221-cakes-in-pricey-cafe-ed-bussed-in-anyone-know-where-from/#findComment-626490 Share on other sites
KoolBananas
Was it not meant that the cakes were brought in from other sites? It's common practise to make stock off site and ship it in as and when as is moving stock from one site to another Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/30221-cakes-in-pricey-cafe-ed-bussed-in-anyone-know-where-from/#findComment-626496 Share on other sites
Bellenden Belle
No - they definitely bake their own - I tried to arrange work experience at their bakery for a friend a few years back but he baulked at the night shift hours!
