Robert Poste's Child
It wasn't easy to find as not used for a year.Really annoying that the Old Vic stopped doing the cheap tickets for Southwark and Lambeth residents. Too expensive for me now unfortunately. Robert Poste's Child
Saw the Ferryman at the Royal Court at last. Rather brilliant, if a bit long at three and a quarter hours, particularly if you've forgotten that the slips are only suitable for size 10 and under. Worth it for the baby alone. ed_pete
Also saw the Ferryman last night. Brilliant, the three hours whizzed by for me. And yes the baby was very cute (and we'll behaved!)Bill Nighy, Anna Wintour and Jenni Murray in the audience ! Robert Poste's Child
Saw Love in Idleness at the Apollo. Thought Anthony Head and Eve Best were great. Definitely recommend. Somehow managed to get a seat for ?20 in the middle of the stalls - amazing! Robert Poste's Child
Beginning at the National is worth seeing: funny in an excruciating kind of way and you could really hear individual lines resonating with people in the audience. Perfect for people in their 30s and early 40s particularly. red devil
Opening at the National is Bryan Cranston in Network, definitely a must see... https://www.theguardian.com/stage/2017/nov/13/network-review-bryan-cranston-lyttelton-national-theatre-lee-hall Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/3019-theatre-anything-on-worth-seeing/page/13/#findComment-1195058 Share on other sites
WomblingFree
Really enjoyed Oslo at the Harold Pinter Theatre. It's the story of the unofficial talks organised by Norwegian diplomats between the Israelis and Palestinians in the early 1990s that led to the Oslo peace accords. Very witty script which I wasn't expecting given the subject matter, only slight downside is it's about 3 hours long. Nigello
If you have an Amex card, try using it to get Network tickets. Each show has at least one ticket available, even when it said "sold out", at least from my reckoning. wee quinnie
Re..The Ferryman....i would avoid it if you are from Northern Ireland. edcam
Agree re The Ferryman. Very much felt like an English person's view of N. Ireland. It has its moments but overall unconvincing. Some great performances (apart from one) but they've changed the cast now, so can't speak for the new one. Nigello
English person's view of N. Ireland Would this be different from a Welsh or Scottish view? The UK is not just England... More Irish / English angst. I'm off to Donegal this weekend to get myself in character... Robert Poste's Child
Absolute Hell at the NT is well named, it turns out. At least as far as I could make out over all the crisp packets and mobile-checking. On the plus side, the theatre was half empty so you can switch to a better seat. WomblingFree
Consent at the Harold Pinter Theatre is worth checking out. The early scenes are about a rape case, but the bulk of the play is about the lawyers who worked on it and the knock-on effects on their partners and relationships. Despite the subject it's laugh out loud funny, but makes some good points as well. WomblingFree
Just saw Girl from the North Country, the Bob Dylan musical which is back in the West End and is as good as everybody says. I'm not a musicals person and only know Dylan's greatest hits but I loved it - story's not the most upbeat but the cast have fantastic voices and the music is stunning. malumbu
Just agreeing with the views on Consent, wondering why it was still on but then seeing the pist is two years old when I saw it. During the New Year's sale was surprised how little I want to see in the West End. The Comedy about the Bank Robbery is no doubt still excellent. I go less and less to the West End as prices generally silly or you are up in the Gods and do the Brockley Jack from time to time. Seetickets send me offers including some good stuff off the West End eg Park Theatre. Women in Black is excellent in the West End.
