Goose Green community meeting 18th Jan: keeping East Dulwich clean

I’ve seen the signs too as I live on East Dulwich Road. The green itself has had leaf clearing at least twice but there’s been no sign of sweeping the road on the north side. Drains are continually blocked even though residents do help clear from time to time. No response from the council after repeated requests about when this road can be swept. Getting to be a hazard with the wet weather making it very slippery. Any other routes to get some action on this?

Unfortunately it replies upon residents having a place put the leaves. Seems a bit slack of the council to not clear the leaves from the tress and rely upon residents to put them in a brown bin which they also have to pay the council to have.

The same thing happened last year and Cllr McAsh had to intervene and get the cleaning teams out. Are there different cleaning teams for the parks vs the streets as I am forever seeing leaf clearing teams in Dulwich Park yet never a sign of them on Lordship Lane (where the need and risk is greater).

Shopkeepers and retailers just CBA to do anything like clean up their exteriors/shutters, remove rubbish/leaves from their environs, etc. They just want your money. Vote with your feet or suggest they may benefit from spending a very small amount of time and effort being community minded.

    • Property has been for a long time a good way to invest.  When interest rates are low, even more so, as returns can be better than banks and the financial markets, and money is cheap to borrow. Some people are fortunate to come from money.  Some are successful at work.  Many of us inherit from parents or other relatives. Governments do take action from time to time.  Mortgage tax relief, tax relief on landlords, inheritance tax and gifting (waiting Starmer) and stamp duty.  The UK has also been historically a good place for overseas investors, including laundering dirty money. Over our lifetime most of us have seen is the widening gap between property owners and those unlikely to get on the housing ladder.  Owning multiple properties has made this more stark. Family stayed in private accommodation in big university cities where we did when we were students.  Except the four bedroom houses are now seven. You could argue that increasing multi tenant properties could help the housing shortage, even if this does benefit a few already well off landlords. Of course it could all collapse again.  But unless Trump trashes global economies would always pick up. Personal interest? I once put an offer on a one bed flat with the thought of adding an upstairs bedroom, modest and a skylight which was permitted development in those days and not a major project.  But ironically the current owners decided to stay and do this.   That was a long time ago.
    • My son doesn't have an EHCP.  He does sometime get detentions, but I think that's fair enough if he's disrupting the class and ignoring the warning system. I think the teachers are probably more lenient with him though due to the ADHD otherwise I think he'd get more than he does currently.    I find that liaising with individual teachers  has helped. To a person they have been incredibly kind, understanding and supportive.  He is happy and doing well and I don't feel I can ask for more than that.
    • I imagine the double application is administrative around the fact that some subjects are made available across the two sites.  I don’t believe you can take both applications forward beyond offers.
    • My son wants to set himself up with a little business repairing bikes in bad condition.  Does anyone have one they would sell to him? Bikes in the for sale section are typically in too good condition.
