Calperson
My son will be 16 this summer and we would like to give him a party in the area. We could spend a bit of money but not a huge amount, and because of his age I'm assuming a licensed venue would say no? Can anyone suggest a cool place or advise? Thank you! Sue
Many licensed venues have rooms where "children" can have parties.Try The Old Nun's Head and The Crown and Greyhound, to name just two!Don't know whether you'd consider them "cool", though! KidKruger
If it's summer why not have a picnic event in one of the parks ? Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/29909-holding-a-birthday-party-in-ed/#findComment-623241 Share on other sites

Jeremy
I've seen birthday parties going on in the community centre thingy on the northern side of the Rye. Penguin68
The various sports grounds around Dulwich all (well most, anyway) rent out their pavillions for parties - great for summer events as the party can spill out into the ground - good for over-energetic 16 year-olds. But you will need to book early - they are very popular. Calperson
Thank you, that is very useful. I had no idea either of those pubs might do it. I read that the Dog is becoming a 'boutique hotel' - surely not what we need down there. Anyhow I will ask them. Brilliant. Any other suggestions also gratefully received as I like to be thorough! acresser
The clock house on Barry Road is being refurbished at the moment to include a separate function room which will be upstairs so separate from the bar - it's due to re-open at the end of the month that might be an idea! And as it'll be a new room they might be keen to take some bookings! Calperson
Thank you kind people for your suggestions. I would suggest the picnic but he and his friends want to be cooped up in a dark room with very loud music - what a surprise. So it's indoors for them. I will keep checking in case any other ideas come up. It's a bit of a tricky age, not child but not 18 yet either. Catzy
The Herne tavern on Forest Hill Rd have a room at the back of their garden which you can hire. Think they call it The Barn. I've hired for my daughter once - its excellent and staff are very helpful. Hope this helps Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/29909-holding-a-birthday-party-in-ed/#findComment-625300 Share on other sites

Calperson
Thanks LauraWe're just arguing about the - um, licensing issue! They feel at 16 they should be allowed some alcohol, which of course can't be done in a public venue. I will keep your details though. mellouise
Have a look on this site http://www.birthdayparty4u.co.uk/ - it's a bit like a directory of everything you need to plan a party. We found our entertainment using it, I'm guessing they will have venues on there too. Hope that helps. Calperson
Many thanks again. Now he might be doing it jointly with a friend, so I'm crossing fingers they'll volunteer their place and we can still avoid having it at home and keep the budget for drinks, food etc. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/29909-holding-a-birthday-party-in-ed/#findComment-634573 Share on other sites
minder
Good idea about doing it at home if you or friends have the room! But don't provide any kind of alcohol as this is still against the law at just turned 16. A licensed venue would say no to an under 18s do as it's more than their licence is worth.Southwark and Lambeth enforcement officers are very active late at night for all kinds of events and turn up just when you least expect it and they have the power to take venue holders to court etc. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/29909-holding-a-birthday-party-in-ed/#findComment-634685 Share on other sites
