Briefing note

A fully automatic submachine gun has been seized by detectives following an intelligence led operation.

?

Detectives from the Specialist Crime Command, with assistance by armed officers, stopped two cars driving in convoy in Crossthwaite Avenue, SE5, on Monday, 15 November.

?

Officers searched the vehicles and found a PM63 RAK machine pistol, capable of fully automatic fire, hidden with a speaker in the rear seat of one of the cars.

?

The firearm was made safe and has been sent off for testing.

?

The drivers of the vehicles, a man aged 31 [A] and a man aged 53?, were arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent.

?

They have been taken to a south London police station where they remain in custody.

?

Detective Chief Inspector Victoria Sullivan, from Specialist Crime, said: ?Excellent investigation work by officers has led to an extremely dangerous weapon, which has been designed to cause serious harm or death, being taken off the streets of London.

?

?We remain dedicated to making London a safer place for everyone by carrying out operations such as this one. We will continue to disrupt those intent on committing violent crime on our streets.?

?

Detective Chief Inspector Daniel Smith, from the Central South Basic Command Unit which covers Lambeth and Southwark, said: ?I know this lethal weapon being recovered on the streets of Southwark will cause concern for local residents. But let me assure you that firearms have no place on our streets and we are doing everything in our power to arrest those who carry and supply guns.

?However, we cannot tackle this issue alone and we rely on information from the public to help us to robustly tackle gun crime. Any information you have, no matter how small, can really help our investigations. I would urge anyone with any information to contact us on 101, or 999 in an emergency. My apologies ? I think the following extra information and clarification may be useful:

?

The abbreviation refers to Section 60 of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994 which gives police officers extra powers to conduct stop and search in a specific area for a very limited time in response to a serious incident or information that a serious incident will take place in that specified area. The power is used sparingly and has to be authorised by a Superintendent.

The incident reference is CAD 4252/17DEC.

Briefing note

On Friday 17th December 2021, at approximately 1515 hours, Emergency Services were called to reports of a man stabbed in RYE LANE SE15.

?

On arrival, it emerged that a 27 year old man had been stabbed and despite the best attempts of Emergency Services he died shortly afterwards in Hospital.

?

An investigation has started and is being led by specialist Detectives.

?

A Section 60aa CJPA has been authorised for the area mapped below and will last until 0600 hours on Saturday the 18th of December 2021.

Briefing note

Detectives investigating the rape of a woman in Southwark are appealing for witnesses.

?

Shortly after 00.45hrs on Friday, 14 January, police received a report of a rape of an 18-year-old woman by two men near Peckham Rye Railway Station.

?

It was reported that was walking down an alleyway off Elm Grove shortly after 22.20hrs on Thursday, 13 January, when she was approached from behind by two males who took her to Holly Grove where they raped her.

?

The two males are described as wearing dark clothing. They were both wearing gloves and face coverings.

?

The 18-year-old woman is being supported by specialist officers

?

A crime scene has been put in place, including part of Peckham Rye Railway Station.

?

There have been no arrests.

?

Detective Superintendent Clair Kelland said: "There is a fast-paced investigation ongoing into this incident and a large crime scene has been put in place.

"We would like to speak to anyone who was in the area of Peckham Rye Station between 10 and 11pm last night who saw anything that may assist our investigation."

Briefing note

Police are investigating an incident of Attempted Murder on the Kingswood Estate, SE21.

?

The victims, a mother (early 50?s) and daughter (early 30?s), were assaulted at their home address by a man known to them. It is being treated as a domestic incident.

?

They have both sustained serious head injuries and one of the victims remains in hospital in a serious but stable condition.

?

Detectives from the Met?s Central South Command are investigating and this appears to be an isolated incident.

?

At this stage one person has been arrested and enquiries are ongoing.
