Where did you go.. ?

You can still get a Pint of Volden Session Bitter for ?3.30 / Volden Pale for ?3.80 in the EDT (East Dulwich Tavern.

and it's a Good Pint.

If you choose One of the 'Nobs' Bars like The Great Exhibition... Franklins... Palmerston

then you will pay more.

Prices in pubs are going up because of massive inflationary reasons. 3 p off duty doesn?t even begin to compare

Serious question. Do you honestly expect pubs to lower prices by 3p a pint.

Let?s imagine YOU ran a pub over last 2 years. How do you think you would balance your income and outgoings?

The duty thing is a huge con- it only applies to 40 gallon barrels (that places like weatherspoons have) all independent or craft ales come in 20 - 30 gallon barrels so they do not qualify. Great photo op for the govt - whilst the reality is they are pandering to their mates who donate to the party whilst real honest entrepreneurs are of course shafted. Plus of course all overheads and cost of sales are going thru the roof for the pub/restaurant industry- food up 20%, staff- if you can find them, 10-15%, utilities- 250-300%, rents, 15-20% - so there is no way your av pint is going to lower in price?

Yes, there are inflationary pressures but also an element of price gouging going on

Go up north to a city centre pub .... similar rent and wages, yet 25-30% cheaper for a pint

As Foxy says, there is perfectly good ale on sale at less than ?4 a pint. And these days there are lots of different beers available with lots of different strengths, so without knowing what you're buying, just saying "?6.50 for a pint of beer" doesn't tell us very much. It's like saying "?15 for a bottle of wine".

Luckily the Crown and Greyhound has procedures in place to discourage alcoholism eg ensuring that no-one gets served within half an hour of approaching the bar

Haha! The bizarre thing is that's been the case for at least 20 years...

The Ivy House in Nunhead has Lucky Saints zero alcohol (I think, very low % anyway) lager on draught.

Can't remember the price but I'm pretty sure it's less than a fiver! And also quite drinkable!

    • No, signs of sense and scrutiny of "leaders" not knowing the impact of what they have done, so much so that every citizen in the UK will suffer financially as a result of an incompetent, incoherent, unhinged Govt that's impact is effecting every citizen in the UK. Where things were being turned around by the last lot, this lot has already compromised all that work in its first 120 days in power. You may not like it but that's the truth.  We are never going to agree and actually Reeves, Rayner and Starmer need to go, like yesterday.

    • I fully agree. I hope you had some khinkali (Georgian dumplings), they're fantastic! They used to have only meat ones but now they also have mushroom ones and they're great. I always try to fit in a honey cake at dessert. Overall I appreciate that their food and menu seems to only improve with time.
