used to suffer from black mould but the answer is to have a fan that stays on long enough to clear the condensation from the air in the room. Perhaps get a fan that has a humistat as well as timer - stays on longer than usual when the humidity is high in there

I've been told by colleagues that grapefruit seed extract mixed with water works on black mould...

...though they said that the mould comes back after a year or so and you have to do it again.

I had this problem recently and discovered that part of the problem was that the bleach was running off before it could do its work. I ended up soaking bits of cut up cotton pads (we had loads of left over from baby days), in bleach and put it down over the stains for a few hours, which cleared it up. I think it would also work with toilet roll, if you don't have any cotton wool handy. Good luck!
I remember reading in a New Scientist Q&A column a long time ago that bleach doesn't kill the fungus, just 'bleaches' it. You need a fungicide to kill it off completely and I assume that's what's in the HG spray. You can also get it from Dulwich DIY on Lordship Lane.

I used the dettol on my,quite frankly, mingling bath seal. Was resigned to ripping it all out and starting again, but this stuff really did the job. Two applications in and I only have a couple of tiny pinpricks left. Thank you for suggesting this, had never heard of it before!

I have a steam shower from Di Vapor and in it is a device called ozone (I think), and it turns on after the shower session for 15 minutes. This is meant to kill any bacteria in the air, preventing mold. I have noticed that I don't have to clean the shower as often as I usually do, so I put it down to the ozone. It's worth a shot.

I have another tiled shower which had mold on the grout in-between the tiles. I scrubbed all the mold off but the grout was still discoloured, so I went to B&Q grout cleaning spray and got a . It cleaned the tiles a little bit but didn't do the job.

I ended up putting a bottle of thick bleach in a squirt bottle, putting on some masks, and spraying the grout with this thick bleach. I left it for a number of hours, when I came back I rinsed it with the shower head and the grout was gleaming white; like new. I was a very happy chappy!

    • Caught him a few years ago at a bizarre gig in Canterbury and know his London agent.  Sad but he wants a well man.  It was a pleasure to have seen him a few times, always different!  Hadn't realised he had been a local.
    • Stewart Lee, who I have seen numerous times, played a gig 18 months ago in Peckham, turning up late and doing around 12 mins of an expected headliner slot.  He has no social media presence and is uncontactable.  I complained to the ticket agents and promoters to no avail.  Obviously I wouldn't boycott a paper due to this incident. With hard copy print declining more liberal media need support irrespective of how easy it is to pick holes.  The decline of regional and local papers has compounded the issue of so many drawing their information from the right wing/populist press, and unverified reports on social media.
    • Avoid companies that are run by non trades people Seems to be the trend lately. Check them on Companies house first. There are some great family companies or sole traders.
