Thank you, very much to everyone who has given something.

On Friday I took a car full of surplus things for children and babies - clothes, toys, books, etc etc, to the

Best Western Hotel in Crystal Palace. Please see my photo in post of 20th Dec below.

I then took a half car full on 21st December. Thanks to some very generous East Dulwichers.

Between now & Christmas, volunteers from Lambeth Refugee Welcome will be delivering 19 Christmas bags of gifts for 40 children whose parents arrived in Lambeth over the last 6 years from Syria, Kurdish lands, Somalia and Afghanistan. Many of these gifts were donated be EDFers. Many thanks from the recipients.

There are 400 refugees ?temporarily? housed there, some with resettled status and some seeking asylum.

If you are a local landlord, please consider whether you would be prepared to rent a property at the local housing rate, as determined by the Councils, ie much lower than the market rate.

If you have good quality, complete, undamaged, clean items of warm winter clothing, toys, pra s and pushchairs, please consider taking there. But please nothing else, and no large items because when people leave they are only allowed two suitcases. The hotel provides nappies but they gladly received the ones I took.

Updated 10th December

When a property has been secured from a private landlord:

Lambeth Refugees Welcome (LRW) will furnish with donated essential items to prepare homes for Afghan?s evacuated by the Home Office. 2 Lambeth homes are now complete and occupied.

LRW are waiting for Lambeth Council to secure 3 properties with private landlords. Therefore I can?t collect any more items other than those specifically listed above, until then, as we have nowhere to store. But when we have keys to the next property, I will post a request for essential items such as those listed below:

(Meanwhile, looking for secure, dry storage for up to two months for furniture up to 2m long, and preferably dry enough for mattresses in order to be ready to furnish these properties. ) If you can offer storage, please tell me your:

maximum space for storing anything free of charge and your deadline for needing your storage vacated.

But please let me know in advance if you have any essential items to give away, which you can hang on to until a Lambeth property is secured. They must be in clean, fit for purpose condition (without a need for sourcing parts, mending, fixing, gluing or painting).

They would have to fit in the boot of my car or yours.

Mine is: L 205cm, H 81cm, W at base 107, W at top 114cm.

If heavy, I will need help collecting and delivering.

If needing disassembling and assembling, I would love help with this.

If upholstered, I will need a confirmation photo of intact fire retardant labels.

For all furniture, a quick photo, dimensions in cm, and a deadline for removal please.

For all electrical and white goods eg lamps, microwaves, TVs, DVD players, radios, washing machines, please confirm they are safe and fully functioning.

Sorry no printers/coffee machines etc as too costly to run.

If you have phones, tablets or laptops, I may have a local friend who can generously check, wipe and enable Arabic script for Syrians or Dari & Pashto for Afghans. He may be able to replace batteries/screens/on off switches etc but at cost price which I would ask you to pay. All Phones must be unlocked.

We aren?t, but other organisations are collecting general adult clothes and food and the Salvation Army, Camberwell, collects baby and toddler items, Southwark Day Centre for Asylum Seekers will take some warm adult and baby clothes. https://www.sdcas.org.uk/, Check our Lewisham Donation Hub for donating most things for refugees.

Emmaeus in West Norwood and British Heart Foundation in Brixton for large items to donate or purchase.

Care for Calais also collecting warm winter clothes for all ages and I think some food banks might be too.

Good, clean, complete toys & books without lots of pieces could be donated to Barry House - temporary accommodation for Asylum Seekers - at the top of Barry Road.

When the next Lambeth property is ready, it will definitely need the following Essential Items:

General:

Hoover, mop & bucket, door mat.

Tupperware, Kettle, microwave, toaster,

Wok, saucepans, casserole dishes, Pyrex.

Teapot, sugar bowl, jug

Hello, I have a Jools Geo buggy I would love to donate. It comes with a bassinet to use from birth and then converts to an upright seat. We also have a kick board attachment for an older child to stand on. Its in good condition, and we are on Landcroft Road if you want to collect it or else we can drop it off if easier. Please DM me if you want this! Thanks, Laura

Have you also thought about setting up a crowdfunder? I'm sure lots of people would like to donate if they don't have items to give?

I have PMd re Washer dryer but we would need someone to collect and deliver - perhaps someone on the forum might kindly volunteer to help if they have a van?

    • I recommend you stick to GB News following that last comment.  Hate crime is still a crime.  We all think that we know best.
