It?s about time isn?t it?

London is effectively a country within a country and it?s about time it has its own flag.

We could get Grayson Perry to design it, but what should it look like?

It should be representative of all of us here in the great morass of London, those born here and immigrants alike. ( (I?m a London immigrant, having migrated up from Sussex)

I?d be proud to fly our flag!

Do you work for the Tory press office?

:)

😄 cheeky monkey

No but seriously, I?ve tried to make this as apolitical as possible, but as you?ll see the alt-right Boris fan boy Brexiteer has posted after you, trying to drag Sadiq Khan into the narrative.

That in itself is a slippery slope, given 59.9% of real Londoners voted to stay in the Brexit vote. Dogger and his ilk could along with others like him, could end up in the minority, and maybe even asked to leave/be repatriated with those likeminded patriots, outside of the new walls of London.

That's a remarkably quick progression from flagwaving to dismissing people as "not real" Londoners to deportation.

There was a time when such loveable luvvies as Perry and Izzard with their OTT transvestism were seen as artistically ironic, etc. but maybe not now? Be interesting to see whether Grayson frocks up less in public. (And it is still no to a flag, made by whichever person.)

This is a good point and you should raise it with Johnson regarding his ?promise? to level up, because you won?t find *anybody* who objects to the regions being given the help they need.

At the same time, remind me how much of the job market and tax base London and the SE provides? Hmmm? Also have you looked around and seen just how much the infrastructure *actually costs* in London? Do you like all the roads and hospitals and schools? Do you think the money for them just magically appears?

Exactly why is it London residents fault that successive governments have ignored the regions? Why am I a leech because both Tory and Labour took the north and midlands for granted? Moreover, if I?m sucking the life out of the NE then so are you. Except neither of us are.

Absolutely nobody is saying that there isn?t a chronic imbalance in this country. I challenge you to find just one person who thinks we shouldn?t invest heavily in deprived regions. I also challenge you to find evidence that this govt will actually do it.

So we?ve gone from flags to transvestism and thrown in a bit of Sadiq and London-bashing. Peak EDF.

Leeches? London paid ?32 billion more in tax than it "got back". The North East paid ?10.7 billion less in tax than it got back.

How much do you think it would cost to build a new bus station in Peckham compared to a new one in Scunthorpe?

I'm up for London declaring independence, so guess we ought to have a flag. Should probably be red (the colour of buses, old school phone boxes and letter boxes etc... seems like a good London colour. Perhaps with a picture of a pint on it. Keep things simple.

That?s the City of London. The GLC flag was a gold crown on a red field above blue and white waves. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greater_London_Council#/media/File%3AFlag_of_Greater_London.svg

Catch Kitson is less busy these days

She?s unfashionably pretty straight, maybe she?s your person to design the flag

Maybe that?s what it?s called

The London Union or London United

On the flag the strap line reads

?Sling yer hook?

Signifying Ken Livingstone's reign over land sea and sky ?

Seabag - my point is that they are too "out there" but that they are "out there" in a socially unacceptable way now. The peopel who would have lauded them are now much more likely to decry their pantomimic "woman face" antics. Cath Kidston is not my scene, either and no, London, does not need a flag or motto or sticker or hashtag.

What about an Instagram account? I think even the Queen has one?!

But let?s not get Grayson and his alter ego mixed up. Grayson is a social commentator of some standing , his Reith lectures and work as an artist prove that.

Clair his alter ego is his expression of himself in part, of course it contrives to shock and create discussion, but it shouldn?t render him or his work redundant, unlike Cath?s ironing board covers etc. And tell me, do you think this ?panto? he?s been engaged in has added to or diminished the cause of gender politics? I?d say it?s given a lot of people the courage to be themselves, and for the world around them to accept them easier, in general.

And in these days of identity, London needs to be acknowledged for what it is, and stand up for that, after all, it?s what the people of London voted for, so we can?t ignore the democratic process that got us there.

If and when there?s a United London referendum, we?ll be able to flex that strength even more. Let the rest of the voters live amongst their own with pride. I know Kent and Medway towns voted overwhelmingly for the situation we?re in, so let those other join them and leave our great UL to thrive. I?d go as far as to reintroduce the single market and align with our friends in the EU on people movement etc. We?d be up and running in not time, shops stocked to the rafters, lorries galore.

Onward, waving the flag.
