ETA: Some people might think an egg dish for brunch was good value at, say, ?12.

Others might think the same dish at that price was a total rip off.

So it was a perfectly reasonable question to ask what the price was.

Edited again to say: "Good value" is a totally subjective concept. People bought Tesco Value Beefburgers and got horse. Value? Others buy designer handbags at thousands of pounds. Value?

I think the prices at the Duck Egg are rather cheap for round here. I had a coffee and drink there on the weekend. Would be nice if they did more organic, locally sourced produce. Otherwise a lovely little place. Bon appetit everyone! X

You asked how much it was, I said I don't know. So far, so reasonable. However, you then went on to say that I could not possibly comment on the value as I did not know how much it was and that's where you went wrong. Anyhow, it was probably around ?12, if that helps (I also had an extra sausage)!

So why didn't you just say it was probably around ?12 in the first place, which was all I wanted to know, instead of dragging my perfectly reasonable question out into a slanging match?

Because it may have been ?1.50 more or less and that probably has an impact on whether you - or others - consider it good/bad value. What's your view by the way, good or bad value?

We've just been to Duck Egg on north cross road this morning. It looked nice from the outside and the menu seemed good. We had eggs Benedict and eggs royale both with duck eggs, a Cappucino and an Americano. The food arrived before the coffees. The coffees didn't have the extra shots we asked for (but were charged for). My partner's food was lukewarm. This seemed to be due to poor communication between kitchen and waitresses (we could see the cook with our plates standing at the back waiting on someone coming to collect them for about 2 mins). It's a shame as its a great location, has a nice exterior but neither the food or coffee were up to scratch or value for money (?23) and the service was chaotic and disjointed. New places like these really need to get it right first time otherwise people who had an experience like us are unlikely to go back.

I haven't bitched or made cutting remarks. I've reviewed the quality of food ad services rendered. I'm not a charity. I expect a certain standard for my hard earned money as will others. I sincerely hope it improves and would return if there's evidence it has.

I went and had a full breakfast there over lunchtime. Place was busy but there's a good amount of seating. Nice atmosphere and the staff were all attentive and helpful.

Menu was mostly egg based breakfasts. ?6 for a full English, up to ?7-9 for more eggs Benedict/Royal types dishes. Duck eggs are optional for an extra ?1. The food came quickly and was generously portioned. The quality of ingredients is a step up from a typical greasy spoon, but it didn't taste much better. In particular, I can't say I noticed a great taste difference with the duck egg, and I personally wouldn't pay the extra ?1 again. Instead, I'd put that toward a slice of one of the very nice looking cakes.

In short: nice place, nice staff, food could be a little better for those prices.

I had the truffled mushrooms. They were fabulous. They didn't get bent out of shape by two adults asking to have breakfast with a one year old - unlike Green and Blue RIP. Hello? Look around- there are just a few kids in the area with parents who spend money!!

Most of the staff are local girls, born and brought up in East Dulwich. Feels like only 5 minutes ago that they were the toddlers jumping all over the sofa in the Grace and Favour of yester year !

I passed there today and noticed that they are advertising Sunday Roasts, with BYOB and no corkage charge.

I think they were ?14.99, so for that price they should be excellent :)

I wasnt impressed. Coffee not very good. Eggs benedict very poor and hard and the hash brownie thing looked like it came from Iceland. Not fond of interior either. Im going to stick to The Blue Brick and Homemade - far superior.
