Did your post-lockdown resolutions include something about "giving back" to your local community? - Let us help you with that! Volunteer with us for 90 minutes a week (and just in term-time) with our local Brownies group.

We meet on Monday evenings from 6 to 7:30 pm at a local school off Lordship Lane.

We are a non-religious, non-denominational group - no church parades or other things you remember from the 1970s. We are just interested in giving girls aged 7-10 an adventure packed programme. By volunteering with us, you can help girls build their confidence, learn new skills and have loads of fun. You don't need any experience - just a willingness to pitch in and enjoy yourself. You can be aged 18-80 and you don't have to be female (although I admit most of guiding is).

You will be CRB (criminal record) checked if you do decide to volunteer with us regularly - as anyone working with children is of course.

  Where memsaabs is think that was called eastern eye .there was a chip shop there previous George's fish and chips.he also owned the chippie across the rd facing the pub on nx road. The cocktail bar was once called platform 1. And few years ago was a pop up jewelry shop. Lela rose I think

  There was also a phone shop and a place selling ?sports type clothes? and at least one place selling old prams which were out on the pavement. And an old fashioned jeweller. And a butcher (and another butcher in NXR if memory serves.) And a greengrocer in the stretch of shops down towards the roundabout (and another one in NXR, which lasted some time after the other one closed). Around 1990? OMG that looks like history 😮 Where does the time go?

  I was trying to remember the name of the Tulip. It was run by a Turkish family, wasn't it? There was another proper, old chippy there around the same time as the Tulip, so mustn't have been Tony's. Do you remember the name of that one? It may have been where Sea Cow went in. I'm struggling to remember the names of all the curry houses there were at one time. There must have been towards 10.
