I was walking up from HOP station past the church on my right, and a bus must have come about 2 inches from me, as it came bombing down the hill. Because the road is so busy at rush hour, cars are squeezing through and all over the place trying to avoid speed bumps, buses and parked cars along the road.

I know its the other side of Forest Hill Road, but its so dangerous and frightening! Surely there should be some railings along the path for pedestrians to feel safer?

My friend will be up there with his keys later.

Further confirmation that something needs to be done. Was struggling to cross the road with my son in his pram and the only way I could get across was a taxi driver stopping - to the annoyance of all behind - on the uphill part of the road until there was room from those coming down. This cannot be the right way. The top bit of Forest Hill Road incorporates five sets of traffic at one stage with no traffic calming, zebras anything. Cars are coming onto it from Wood Vale, Brenchley Gardens, Honor Oak Park and Honor Oak Road, not to mention Forest Hill Road itself. Come on Lewisham, come on Southwark, get something sorted. Renata can you give us an update on whether anything is getting through to anyone?

I walked back up the hill yesterday evening only to find that they had only been fixing and re-constructing some of the damaged "speed bumps" which are completely ineffective. Nice to see tax payers money being completely wasted. Grrrr....
I have decided now when I walked down the hill I will never do so on the One Tree Hill side. Too dangerous by far. The other day saw a lunatic white van driver veer onto the pavement. And we all know how narrow that pavement is. Walk against the traffic people, far safer by far. And all those who haven't and wish to please add this to the myriad of complaints that most local residents have as regards Forest Hill Road/Honor Oak Road/Honor Oak Rise. Names/emails in the opening thread.

Dbboy, when did you "used" to walk up and down there regularly? Perhpaps it's worse now than it used to be. Do you walk the route regularly now? Do you have to walk up and down there with young children?

I don't know if there have been any accidents but we don't have to wait for an accident to happen before something is done. It's about preventing an accident from happening and about feeling safe.

    • I've been a member for many years (through 3 different organisations running it..) and a regular attendee of the gym though not the classes. I'm REALLY REALLY disapointed that it now feels very much geared toward weights and strength training with the cardio machines cut down considerably in number (only about 5 or 6 X trainers..I had to wait to use one) running machines halved in number and a lot of wasted space. Also I thought the actual cardio machine I did use was pretty rubbish (It felt like something from Argos) and not by one of the well known gym equipment brands that I've used in other gyms..also no screen display settings so you can 'run on a beach' etc. And the Wifi still was'nt linked to machines so no youtube netflix etc. I felt the gym seemed less inclusive the ab crunch has gone, seated row gone, the seated machine you make cycling movements with your arms, gone...these are all machines I see older members using, I did'nt notice if the recumbent bikes had gone or the two step machines, the ski-movement x trainers of which there were 2 have also gone My general impression was that these was a distinct scarcity of weight based machines and the focus was very much on free weights with this taking up the majority of the space. BECAUSE ITS A COUNCIL RUN GYM SURELY WITH THE AGING POPULATION AND OBESITY CRISIS THE EQUIPMENT IN SUCH A LARGE FLOOR SPACE SHOULD OF A RANGE THAT CAN BE USED BY OLDER AND LESS FIT MEMBERS OF THE COMMUNITY?! Kings hospital used to bring groups to the gym to use the use the cardio equipment-I don't know what they'll use now? I raised concerns about the majority of the space being used for free weights when I saw the plans and asked for member feedback prior to the refurb, I must have been in the minority I guess. I was also suprised that the changing area is still the same and looking pretty tired. I felt that with all this new equipment they should have had lots of visible staff on the floor helping people get to understand settings and so forth. I wish Everyone active still ran the gym..in my experience they were the best. But having really looked forward to the reopening I found it a real let down☹️ In a nutshell if you want a muscle gym its great and I understand there will soon be a boxing area-I was not told that there would be more cardio machines coming.
    • Happy New Year to my amazing clients and EDF for all your great support
    • I've been training with the wonderful Marisa at Gokay's Fitness Hub for the last few months and have seen really significant improvements in my strength and have regained a lot of lost body confidence. I feel really happy abd energised at the end of each session. One of the side benefits of the Fitness Hub is the sense of community there, the group classes are very friendly and welcoming. Highly recommend! 👌 👍😀
