I looked for a Valentine's Day Thread to ask whether people still did this (well, if they still did it after their 20s maybe) but all that turned up was people selling stuff - which kinda sums up the day.

So, is it really just Hallmark Day? or do you still shower your significant other in gifts and special treats?

Cards, chocs, fizz, night-out, impromptu break in Paris?

And if you do, do you do so because of your deep love for said other and a wish to demonstrate this love?

...or because if you don't do it you will get so much stick that forgetting your anniversary will pale in comparison?

Or is it a perfunctory supermarket card, milk tray and prosecco with the prawn cocktail (none of which I'm knocking) just for the sake of tradition?

Me and my other half do other things together, without the boys around.

But on VD we sometimes go for a FULL-ON-CHEESE-FEST-VALENTINES-DAY

Tomorrow being one of these events, I intend to OD on the stuff

Padded card, helium ballon, lairy flowers, interlocking arms, sipping cheap champers et al.

Stand back - giant padded "I LOVE YOU" bear coming through.

I know, but people have odd ideas about Valentine's Day. It might be a flower, and it might be the right colour, but if it's not a bunch of roses, it doesn't count, however noble the motive.

It's right, of course, to remember the dead, but the dead aren't half as touchy as the living. Nor can they change the locks.

If it's the only day of the year you tell the special person in your life - then there's issues.

If it's done out of knee jerk reaction to some "special day" then boring ol' you

But if you have your own take, with bit of fun & some heavy irony, then power more to you

However, as Xmas is on the 25th so Valentines is on the 14th, no amount of lip service or inverted cool snobbery will change that.

Ignore it and something inside slowly withers.

Yeah, a mutual "I suppose we should, shouldn't we? Eh? We should. Don't you think? Eh? I mean, you know, for the day like? Eh? For tradition's sake? Eh? Just sayin', we probaby should. Shouldn't we? Eh? Eh? Eh? Oy! Have you gone to fucking sleep?!"
