maxxi
I looked for a Valentine's Day Thread to ask whether people still did this (well, if they still did it after their 20s maybe) but all that turned up was people selling stuff - which kinda sums up the day.So, is it really just Hallmark Day? or do you still shower your significant other in gifts and special treats? Cards, chocs, fizz, night-out, impromptu break in Paris? And if you do, do you do so because of your deep love for said other and a wish to demonstrate this love?...or because if you don't do it you will get so much stick that forgetting your anniversary will pale in comparison?Or is it a perfunctory supermarket card, milk tray and prosecco with the prawn cocktail (none of which I'm knocking) just for the sake of tradition? titch juicy
Probably a boring reply, but me and the other half are both of the opinion that there's nothing less romantic than 'reinforcing' your love for each other on the same day as everyone else. Would both rather do something on a day more personal to us. polla2256
It's a total crock of shit. Don't get me wrong I love my wife - As I tell her every day. The point is what a miserable society we must live in to only celebrate love on 1 day of the year.Just another sales forecast I'm afraid and nothing more. *Bob*
"I'm going to work - love you!" "I'm going to the launderette - love you!""I'm going for a piss - love you!" Yep, you gotta tell 'em every day - if you want to keep things non-routine and extra-special. It might be a flower, and it might be the right colour, but if it's not a bunch of roses, it doesn't count, however noble the motive. It's right, of course, to remember the dead, but the dead aren't half as touchy as the living. Nor can they change the locks. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/29102-curmudgeons-corner/#findComment-616587 Share on other sites
LondonLogCo
If it's the only day of the year you tell the special person in your life - then there's issues. If it's done out of knee jerk reaction to some "special day" then boring ol' youBut if you have your own take, with bit of fun & some heavy irony, then power more to youHowever, as Xmas is on the 25th so Valentines is on the 14th, no amount of lip service or inverted cool snobbery will change that.Ignore it and something inside slowly withers.
