Just had a guy at the door who said he is homeless. He's going door to door to ask for money. I was in the middle of a work call so didn't really get to engage with him any further and don't carry cash so wasn't in a position to give him anything. I have no idea if he is legitimate or not but just thought I'd let people know that he may knock on your door. We're on Hindmans Road. There are people out there in desperate situations so I wouldn't quickly write him off as not being genuine. Happy for others to tell me I gullible etc.

Yup, same bloke. I?m a sucker. Didn?t give him money but probably would have if I had cash.

I've given money to homeless people before. Not all the time, has to come across as genuine. Perhaps I will start a thread on it. PS if you are concerned that this is a scam, or is threatening, report it to the police.

I had homeless people come to my aid when I fell off my bike once. I also had a few beers with some near Covent Garden many years ago when I'd been to an awful party in a pub. I expect these groups have gone now since hostel provision improved in the last century.

My reason for adding something on here was a) it?s unusual to have someone knock on your door asking for money b)let people know in case they?re worried about vulnerable friends or relatives c) if he?s genuine, let other people know who may have experience or knowledge on services available. You?d be pushed to find anyone who hasn?t given money to homeless people or some other form of kindness in London. It?s a sad reality. So are scammers.

Fair enough! Personally I'm pleased that I no longer carry money on me as was getting fed up with being approached on the Overground. Difficulty at times in distinguishing between genuine hardship and professional begging.

That is a lot of reactionary stuff - 'Romanian beggars being handled by a gang leader' ("the clothing and babe in arms isn't genuine you know", Big Issue sellers and the like

Not leveling these accusations at you, of course. Just like to get balance.

    • I'm sorry to see another chain opening up in the form of Holland and Barratt a couple of doors up from SMBS.  That will be another unfair pressure on SMBS .  I really hope people continue to support SMBS and its relative shop The Cheese Block under huge pressure with the arrival of Mons and Bora.  These are two of the oldest surviving (30 years plus?) green grocers, deli and unusual ingredient food shops in Lordship Lane and made it an interesting high street long before the chains and  newbies moved in.  I would think Healthmatters is none too happy either 😕 Support your local independent store or Lordship Lane will get really dull
    • Thank you so much for your lovely review, Laura! It’s amazing to hear about your progress – we love having you at the hub. See you soon! Gok 😊
    • Hello,  We have a desk space in our studio which is on Blackwater Street (just off Lordship Lane) SE22. It's a quiet space shared with another architect and a group of landscape designers. We are architects and on the first floor. There are a couple of meeting rooms available and a kitchen. Let me know if you'd like to arrange a viewing to hear more. For a fixed desk we would charge £300 / month + VAT. I've attached some photos but let me know if you'd like to arrange a visit.  Thanks,  Nimi
