How do you know it is just the elderly? How can you relax if sound levels are beyond your tolerance, when you are trying to work or get the kids to sleep? Perhaps the festival either needs to turn the volume down or find a venue that is not so close to residential areas.

It was good. The weather came and went a bit, but we mainly kept dry. The only covered area with music was tooo busy but the other stages were fine.

It got quite muddy and I guess will stay that way. So don?t wear your favourite shoes :)

And most importantly, have fun!!

I think there are genuine and valid concerns about the possibility of damage to the Rye area being used, not because of the usage itself, but because of the potential damage if, like last year, there is heavy rain and waterlogging which will make recovery of the land used a longer haul. But end of July ought to be a good time for this.

The noise disruption however, whilst I am sure annoying to some, won't be to many, and the value of having a vibrant event locally, with good quality 'turns' and (if last year is anything to go by) relatively little trouble is a positive contribution to living around here. A Festival we can walk to is surely a good thing locally - if it brings in, as it will, outsiders who otherwise don't know the area, then that too is overall a good thing. South East London (and particularly those bits adjacent to Peckham) frequently get a bad, and in my over 30 years experience of living here, broadly undeserved press.

It was banging out loud enough even up the hill last night. Are these events not governed by the no. of db's and if exceeded, need to be reduced. Where's the noise team???

I do feel very sorry for those in the midst of the intolerable bass.

Today Hornimans Gardens are closed for the Jerk music and burnt food event that they have brought back, so stuck in the middle of the two.

It seems to be all about ?? Money at the expense of local residents.

Bearing in mind over 60% of the 13,000 people who attended in 2019 were 'from' our locality, the event is clearly very much 'for the enjoyment' local residents.

Details are all in the post-event 2019 report, where you will also note that noise levels were strictly monitored - and not once exceeded.

Hilarious response. It doesn't actually bother me...at all. I like loud music. However, I am able to step outside the limits of my own experience and empathise with the plight of those who feel differently from me. I can understand that for residents close by who do not share my tolerance for very loud music and who have other priorities and responsibilities beyond 'having fun' enduring this event for three days solid could be quite testing.

Indeed. Right now all I can hear are drums drums drums. I have two very tired kids and and two more days of this crap. The music is audible well beyond two mins away. I worked an early shift and am now supposed to be sleeping before my early shift tm. So am in no mood for stupid people who think I am being a selfish party pooper because some council official decided it was a good idea to put a three day music festival that runs until 10.30 at night on my doorstep. There are better, less disruptive locations for this kind of event, end of.

It is worse at night because other ambient noise drops. Not sure how they measure decibel levels to be honest. If it is loud enough to interfere with other noise, then it is too loud. And it is too warm to keep all the windows shut for three days.

- Totally agree, currently it's quiet up the hill with no noise from either of the two events, actually surprised as thought the drum and base would be banging out loud and heavy from midday. Only other noticeable difference is more traffic than usual. Sydenham Rise was chukka with cars already by lunchtime. Perhaps the volumes may increase from 5.30pm although the earlier drizzle and threat of rain later may also deter some today.

there?s a difference between arguing for gala and arguing that it should happen every week. i?m arguing that being considerate goes two ways

Quite a few I know have complained to noise team and they have a van going around checking the decibels levels. As are Gala themselves, (who also said at the 'consultation' meetings they would be reseeding and making good the land they have been on. But it depends on the decibel levels I suppose. It can still be loud and disruptive to people when in their own homes surrounding the park and beyond, whilst still being in the levels set (by someone!)

DO you assume that the only people upset about the noise own houses? How small minded of you. If ever you are involved in an accident or need the services of A&E I hope you are not faced with a nurse who through lack of sleep in his or her council or private flat they can barely afford the rent on, doesn't make an error in treating you. We are part of one society reliant on one another whether we like it or not.

And GALA have more plans for Peckham Rye Park. They have been one of four shortlisted for the Bowling Green area to set up a permanent music area. I hope the Friends Of Peckham Rye Park manage to persuade them of the insensitiveity of this idea, including to the planting and so on nearby as well as the disturbance. http://www.peckhamryepark.org/news
This discussion is so utterly over the top. I went on Friday and had a GREAT time. On Saturday the noise was quite annoying - I live just off the common - but it wasn?t that bad. Young people have put up with so much over the past 18 months. They have suffered a lot for other people. Rather than complaining, people should be pleased that life is returning to normal, and the night economy is coming back to life - creating jobs for people. The organisers of the festival should be praised for taking a risk at a time of uncertainty and creating value for the economy. A city is for everyone. I?m glad so many people had fun.

I'm looking forward to 20 years from now when Joe Peckham and Funny are on here complaining that a music festival on the Rye has kept their kids awake all night and they are now too tired to go and do their jobs.

Assuming of course that they don't od on some dodgy tabs first that is like so many people I knew in my youth have.

look, appreciate where you?re coming from on this but 100% that is a bigger problem which needs to be addressed separately to this. you even agree in your points that it?s issue so why are you accepting that it can?t be changed and it should be put up with? you?re not arguing for what you think you?re arguing for, you?re arguing for hegemony

the last part of your comment is pretty over the top, especially when you know how much something like that can hurt people.

Hear hear, It's like no one has ever had guests round their house & kept their neighbours up, or lived next door to noisey kids who are actually just being kids. It's a community here & we make small sacrifices for others. It's only 3 days a year & finishes at 10pm.

I live 2 streets away & took a walk over last night, it was so great to see people having fun.

    • As a result of the Horizon scandal it now seems very clear that the Post Office management are highly disingenuous and not be trusted!  There needs to be a campaign launched to challenge the threatened closure, unless the Post Office can demonstrate beyond doubt that the branch is loss making - and even then it could argued that better management could address this. I hope the local media take this up and our MP  and a few demonstrations outside wouldn’t do any harm. Bad publicity can be very effective!
