This week we have one Southwark Healthy Ride with registration on Eventbrite as usual. When you register on Eventbrite, link details below, please give a phone number as it may be needed for Track and Trace. If you cannot make it, please cancel so that someone else can take the place. Even at the last minute it is worth cancelling.

London Bridge to Parliament Hill

New route for the Southwark Healthy Rides that will take in several favourite locations. 13 mile loop with time to compare the views from Parliament Hill and Primrose Hill. 10.00 am to 1.00 pm. Start/finish Southwark Gateway Needle, London Bridge, S side near London Bridge Station. If anyone wishes to start from Canada Water, meet there at 9.20am. Be in Deal Porter Square, next to the Library and opposite the Station. Please indicate on the Registration Form that you are planning to go to Canada Water.

Outward route will pass St Pauls, pause at Kings Cross (Granary Square), follow the Regents Canal for a short stretch before returning to roads to reach Parliament Hill Fields. Will stop at the Caf? for a break. Energetic riders can walk up to the viewpoint ? there will be time for that. Return route will pass the Roundhouse then ascend Primrose Hill. From there go through Regents Park, then across Bloomsbury, past UCL and the British Museum. Hopefully can cut through Temple then join the Cycleway as far as the Monument before crossing back over London Bridge. A mostly quiet route except for about a mile along Kentish Town Road and Highgate Road. Bruce leading. Route at

We will keep everyone as safe as possible by observing all the Covid Regulations. Even with the relaxation of the rules it is still a good idea to routinely keep a 2m social distance, never less than 1m. Particularly important to maintain social distancing from other users on shared paths. Always give way to pedestrians and to other cyclists so all path users can maintain 1-2 m and feel safe. Just in case we need them, good idea to bring a face mask (note will be needed if you want to get refreshments at the caf? stop). Obviously please do not turn up to this event if you are displaying symptoms of Covid-19.

These rides are organised by Bruce Lynn on behalf of Southwark Cyclists who are a branch of the London Cycling Campaign. Our website is here: [southwarkcyclists.org.uk] and the LCC's website is here: [www.lcc.org.uk]. For more info text Bruce on 07729 279 945. Enjoy.

The long ride to Parliament Hill is now fully subscribed (although do check for cancellations or join the wait list if you wish). In light of this, Simon has kindly offered to lead a short ride from Canada Water along the river to Central London.

NOTE you must register on Eventbrite. When you register on Eventbrite, link details below, please give a phone number as it may be needed for Track and Trace. If you cannot make it, please cancel so that someone else can take the place. Even at the last minute it is worth cancelling.

Canada Water to St James Park

Our sightseeing ride, led by Tour Guide Simon! Easy, 10 mile, flat ride from Canada Water, across London Bridge passing Parliament Square, St James Park, Buckingham Palace and back across Westminster Bridge. Outward using much of Cycleway 3 along the Embankment. Return keeping to the south side of the river along Belvedere Rd, Upper Ground and through Borough Market (avoiding the shoppers!). Although we are on some busy roads, mostly have a cycle lane or bus lane. For what it is worth, forecast for Saturday morning is good.

    • The problem is Starmer can't shut up about his dad being a tool maker, they made Keir,  a right prize tool. Reeves continually blames the previous Govt, but correct me if I'm wrong but inflation was decreasing, unemployment was stagnant, with decreases and the occasional increase, things were beginning to stabalise overall.    Then we had the election 4 July when Starmer and co swept to power, three months on things are worse than they were before, yet Reeves continues to blame the former Govt. The national debt doubled overnight with public sectors all getting a wage increase and now the budget that penalises business with the increase in Employers national insurance. The result of which will be increased prices in the shops, increased inflation, increased numbers of redundancies, increased unemployment and increased pressures on the DWP to fund this    Future growth will go backwards and become negative, farmers will no longer farm in protest against the Govt, more people will become poorer and unable to pay their bills, things will spiral out of control and we'll have a repeat of the General Strike until this bunch of inept politicians resign and Kemi and co prevent the ship from hitting the iceberg and sinking.
    • Indeed so.  Just noting there are other options and many children and indeed young adults may well be perplexed and/or irritated by a cheque.
    • My experience of the CT is that when they screw up, their first instinct is to cover up. They are also shameless liars.
    • And that's your choice, but it's not everyone's choice.  Some people don't like or can't do what you do.
