FLIP - Covent Garden

Oh - lordy this thread has made me SMILE. I went out with one of the Long Acre Flip sales 'boys' back in 1988 for a very short time, when I was a London University student. He was called Ben, and he was absolutely drop dead gorgeous (spit of David Gandy). All very loose cut, worn Levis' 501s brought in tight at the waist with a belt. Ha!

I'm quite amazed that Flip remains in the memory

Of so many.

I use to work there part time and later

Full time when I left school.

I stood out a bit because I was a provincial 'soul boy/casual' from

Greenhithe village now ( Bluewater )amongst these wonderful

Eclectic staff which included rockabillies, boy George clones and the 501 , cowboy boot wearing crew.

I think the staff were as memorable as the clothing.

Charles,Patrick ,rick, roberto etc . I miss them all ....good times.

Off the top of my head: Frannie's wine bar, the Yellow Door run by Anne and Sammy with occasional Monty Pythons as customers, George's chip shop on the corner of Matham with (a guy who thinks he's Elvis) behind the counter, Dave Thorpe, Peter Walsh and Frank Kemmi (?) from Get Stuffed (wealthy geezers) and the dusties propping up the bar in the Foresters, the Magdala card school, The Kebab and Stab, Thistells (Sammy again) later Robert's much missed Chardon, the Moulin at the Plough (Margaret and Eric), Streamline motorbikes, the Uplands rock disco with Peter Bashford, Saturday afternoons in the EDT (Des), punch ups in the Palmerston more to follow...
