fishbiscuits
I'm with you, Foxicus. Many people have not been vaccinated (largely their own fault), and many have only had one jab (especially amongst the younger people who are understandably itching for a proper night out). This is all happening at a very unfortunate time.A mask in indoor/enclosed public spaces is a small measure - trivial almost. Why on earth wouldn't you wear one? Seabag
My ex reckons ?nutrient rich food, organics and vit D? is the way forward. Not a vaccine. So there you go, other people in the face of this have a different view, anything else is ?propaganda? apparently. And these people aren?t up for being convinced otherwise. Will/did the rest of the family get infected? I think I read 1.7m people are currently self isolating in the UK and only a fraction are infected. The reason I ask is that Covid will be with us forever in some shape or form with possibly thousands of variants to come in the years ahead. Society cannot function with endless pingdemics and self isolating. Spartacus
Is anyone else getting fed up of the new slogan "if not now, when?" It could be applied in so many different ways For example "is it a good time to die from Covid?" Spartacus
It's funny, the media are now believing every word from a man they hounded for lying about his "eye test trip" He's out for revenge so I'm taking everything he says with a pillar of salt 🤔I wonder how long it will be before he calls for a new PM chorus "if not now, when?" 😆 Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/289677-freedom-day-poll/page/2/#findComment-1525204 Share on other sites
Sephiroth
one doesn't have to like, trust, respect, have any truck with Cummings - I don'tBut the texts he is publishing - you couldn't honestly say Johnson is unlikely to have said those thingsie it is possible for them both to be complete shits Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/289677-freedom-day-poll/page/2/#findComment-1525206 Share on other sites

Seabag
There?s lies to save your own skin, like Cummings did (with BJ?s encouragement). Then there?s lying about who said what.I?d err on the side of poor judgment on the first, and mostly not be in the least surprised in the revaluations on the latter.Johnson is a dreadful human being, we agree on that mostly. And he?s a serial liar, we?d agree on that mostly. And credibility between the two?Cummings is more credible, than Johnson is believable. Most of those things ring ?true? as the type of stuff that streams from BJ. Seabag
Or Brighton Pier (the burnt down one) could be Prime minister. At least the pier would be consistent, a buckled warped structure alone in the sea. ed26
C - Bearing in mind that a mask is designed to stop us passing our germs onto others (a fact that STILL seems to be lost on a lot of people they interview on the TV) I'll wear a mask out of respect and courtesy to others when I'm in a busy environment, and I won't if it just seems pointless.I'm nervous about the relaxing of the rules but I agree that this is the best time to do it, with the schools closed for summer, the students not living on top of each other in halls of residence, and the potential (and, so far, reality) for warmer, drier weather. If they delay the relaxation for another month, then the schools will be about to return. A month after that, the universities will be reopening. A month after that, we'll be into the normal winter flu season, so there won't be much chance of relaxing the rules until next Spring. Not a fan of the virus passport idea, but if it means that the hospitality sector can stay open when the students return to uni and the cold weather approaches, then it makes perfect sense. People worried about "their rights" will have to refrain from visiting their local Ritzy for a while. I get the point about this leading to enforced vaccination and so on, but this decision seems to be sensible in isolation. Spartacus
Ed26 A possible counter to the "if they delayed it another month" is that more young people could be vaccinated and the current wave could be smaller with less people likely to catch it when we unlock. It's a tough one to call Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/289677-freedom-day-poll/page/2/#findComment-1525369 Share on other sites

There are masks that also give the wearer a good deal of protection, but like you say, people do seem to think by wearing whatever they are wearing, that they are predominately protecting themselves. ed26
@Alan Medic - Yes, I do. e.g. if I'm standing at an open-air TFL station and there's no one around, I think the rules say I should be wearing a mask, but I'm going to be a rebel and choose not to, especially in this heat! tedfudge
A for me ...It's only freedom day for the virus not us... the younger people ( I'm 45 )Just want to go to nightclubs etc and dont seem to care about covid as they think it doesnt affect them.. I believe there will be another lockdown or partial lockdown in late August or beginning of September Partial lockdown will be hospitality like clubs bars restraunts and pubs and sports stadiums as they are the mostlikely places to catch covid.. 2 of my work colleagues WIVES one is a teacher and one a nurse / midwife has been Told already to expect another lockdown or partial lockdown at end of August beginning of September. ed26
> I would only be faffed wearing a mask if i knew it> protected me, i dont really care about wearing it> to protect others as masks give me discomfort, and> i should be able to do what i like (so i do).And it's this attitude that is making so many people nervous about the unlocking. Just imagine how much easier things would be, if everyone had the common sense and manners to try to protect those around them.
