The 19th of July (tomorrow) is being dubbed freedom day after a long lockdown. Numbers of covid cases are on the rise and hospital cases are also starting to show an uptick.

Question is will you

A) Keep taking the same precautions as you have been for the last few months (masks, a bit of social distancing, respect others space)

B) Throw caution to the wind and gladly get rid of restrictions.

or

C) A combination of both depending on where you are and what you are doing.

I am old, so carry on as before, with masks. But I am now frightened as the youngsters

are all ready throwing caution to the wind.

More worried now than beginning of lock down, I have had two jabs

and will have whatever boosters are recommended.

I will feel more of a prisoner tomorrow.

My friend?s Son (18) has this attitude too.

Unfortunately he?s got infected and now the whole house is isolating so his Mum (teacher), Dad (hospitality), Sister (hospitality) cannot work and his other sister cannot attend school.

I respect everyone?s feelings of wanting to ?get back to normal? but the impacts of one?s individual infection are very far from individual. If one is infected and near other people you will infect someone. How those infected by those expressing their ?freedom? are able to physically cope with that and the impact on their work and home life are presumably of no interest to the infector.

Even 90% effective means 10% ineffective - Those odds just make me watch for a few weeks as an individual - after all I've waited for over a year. Those odds do of course benefit the herd but some of the herd don't make it even then.

My usual order of home beer for this week and still no pub :)

Now we're all confused ... have you posted in the right place?

Bigger issue is those who haven't got vaxxed. We know about the hard line anti-vaxxers but it is the 18 - 25 years olds that bother me where take up is still pretty low. And BBC aren't giving daily vaxes any more as the number of first timers is relatively low.

In the great scheme of thing it is most likely that the young unvaxxed wont be wearing masks, ironic that older people double vaxxed are more likely to do.

TBH figures are going to get quite scary so I expect that we will increasingly stay away from crowds. What we do is probably pretty irrelevant seeing as we have had the super spreader events - Wembley, Formula 1, and now with the clubs opening....

The government really need to be clear what the strategy is. It seems likely they're looking to vaccinate as many over 18s and those in vulnerable groups as possible and letting everyone else catch it, in the hope that we reach 'herd immunity'. If so, then they need to spell it out.

If that is not the plan, then I don't understand what the hell Johnson is up to, because opening up right now doesn't make any sense.

Beautifully ironic that on this day that the government has deemed the day of our 'freedom' Johnson and Sunak have been forced to quarantine.

Utterly useless pillocks.

I mean this in the nicest possible way, but I thought you?d *ahem* ?departed! never to return Jah.

C - possibly A, but it's clear from the evidence so far of hospitalisations and deaths that the Delta variant is significantly milder in its impact than previous variants and the 'original' virus. And that's the ONS saying that, not just some government mouthpiece. And the variant has been here for two months now, so the evidence is more than just a snapshot.

I will continue go wear my mask..

More important now than Ever..

Many young people out and about unvaccinated. Many older people also still unvaccinated.

People cheering hollowing and shouting.. thinking it's All over.. It's not All over.

Possible just started.

We relaxed the Rules.. Several sporting events with 10 x 1,000's attending.

Then 2 weeks later 30,000 - 50,000 new case each day. Blamed on New Covid Variant.

nothing to do with New Variant. It's probably down to lack of social distancing.

The new relaxation will end in disaster.

Wait and see in 1 - 2 months time..

    • Not sure about changing hands but the Peckham Rye one is open and hasn’t had any random closures. Our child is very happy there but there was a resolved Ofsted complaint half way through last year.  Things don’t look good for the Devon nursery owned by the same company - looks like loads of issues with Ofsted which can be seen in its latest report.
    • I was in Forest Hill Road today, just past the Rye, and noticed there is a dentist next to the Herne (pub) that has NHS signs outside. I've never had any problems getting NHS dental treatment in East Dulwich, and I get regular check ups. I've been to three  different dental practices here over the years, all with NHS treatment. I think the difficulties are in other parts of the country. Malumbu has a good explanation above. I didn't hear the Radio 4 programme, but I'm guessing that a  radio programme is not going to have time to say where you CAN easily get NHS treatment, and is bound to focus on the negatives and the horror stories, otherwise it would be very boring! ETA: Re children's teeth, I think the major issue is not lack of dentists, it is children being given sugary food, drinks and confectionery which rots their teeth. The education of parents needs to be about this, not just about tooth brushing. And in some cases the poor diet may also be due to lack of money for healthy food. Though of course the lack of dentists doesn't help, if  the tooth rotting can't be rectified by fillings or extraction.
    • Well, I hope you like what you see, the hot air, lack of answers and continual blaming things on the last Government and the made up blackhole, I find are nauseating. The man needs to see reality, because I'd guess that if we had a snap election tomorrow and based on the first six months of this parliament, Labour would get trounced. When the election does finally happen and if that isn't before the people rise up and throw this lot out, Labour will not be voted back in for a millennium.
