PeckhamRose
I had just left for work and was suddenly nearly blinded by a light. Before I worked out was it was a massive clap of thunder hit. Then it rained. It was a meterological phenomena is what it was. Pickle
It gave me a fright, agree it didn't sound like thunder (after watching a plane crash thing last night I was convinced a passenger jet was about to appear in the street). My kids reliably inform me there was lightening. Saffron
I saw a lightening flash too. It happened just after I switched off a light, and I thought it was a problem with the light at first. A second later there was a rumble of thunder. Mystery solved. (I did switch the light off/on a couple times, just to make sure I wasn't losing my mind.) It wasn't even particularly loud thunder but seemed to come from nowhere!
