???? Otta
"Why does such an amoral character as Mike invoke much empathy?"I'm not sure I empathise with him, but they show him watching his granddaughter which shows a human side, and he tries hard to advise Walt / Jessie not to get in too deep. He also shows Walt up for th total fecker he starts to become. He also seems genuinely fond of Jessie for a while."Walt was always evil, his cancer has just given him the courage to act on it"? DiscussI don't think he's evil, I think the point is that we all might be capable of stuff that wouldn't even occur to us in our every day family lives. He is a desperate man who starts out with good intentions he feels down trodden and over shadowed. As things move on he likes the feeling of power and control, but I think that he would be shocked to be called evil, and would have some justification for everything he's done (even if we might think it doesn't wash).Has anyone seen the link with teddy bear in the pool and later incidents (not the crash obviously) Damn it, I did think something about this, but can't remember what now. I'll get back to you.WTF is going to happen in the end? Hank will obviously work it out to some extent, but no idea where they'll take it from there. Walt to die, and Jessie to be the new kingpin at the end??? ????
I wish they'd given us more on Mike. We know he's an ex-cop and 'something' went wrong and the incident with the wife beater/murderer got to him but that's it...he sort of feels like a good man who just got broken. Not sure with Walt, some fairly vicious moments early...the bit when he sees the missing bit from the broken plate seems to trigger him off into a spiral of evil. Ok there are slight touches of remorse but.The teddy bear had half it's face missing i.e. the Chicken Man!Tyler Kills Walt/Jessie does/Walt Kills Hank...dunno Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/28926-breaking-bad-with-spoilers-youve-been-warned/#findComment-614803 Share on other sites
Annasfield
The teddy bear is definitely a reference to the end of episode 4. I didn't get that until someone pointed it out to me though. I love how pretty much everything is linked in some shape or form and that Walt aways manages to think of some made chemical reaction to fix a problem. Otta
Yeah, really enjoyed rewatching the episode where the battery dies in the middle of nowhere and he makes another battery to jump start it. Although Jessie's idea of building a dune buggy was cool! giggirl
To say that they're anti-heros is an understatement of course. But somehow, against all the odds, they've (mostly) managed to keep the audience on side. I can imagine the writers sitting in a room and discussing how far they can push things before the audience demands their demise.I have a respect for people who do what needs to be done and get on with it. To a point. People work at boring jobs to feed their families. They don't like it but they suck it up. We all understand that's what needs to happen. Same thing in Breaking Bad. And then it escalates.Walt starts out just wanting to make things OK for his family and we're all on "Team Walt". We're all on side. Then people start to get hurt. Lots of them. Every time Walt or Jessie do something "bad" then we stop and take the temperature and mostly think "well I can see why you did that and it had to be done". So they're doing things that you don't like, but you grasp their desperation (Jesse shooting Gale, Walter strangling Krazy-8); so you're still on side. My turning point was when Walt let Jane die and he did not need to do that; he could have saved her. But my big, jaw-dropping moment, when I came off "Team Walt" forever, was when that episode finished with the close up of the lilley of the valley plant. That was Walt manipulating Jessie; he did not need to do that and that child did not need to suffer.I don't think Tyler's that pleasant either. I haven't got the measure of her but I don't like her and have never warmed to her. There's something Shakespearean about Walt. He's come a long long way from high school to kingpin:I am in bloodStepp'd in so far that, should I wade no more,Returning were as tedious as go o'er. bon3yard
Theres been talk of a Saul Goodman spinoff so maybe Mikes story could get fleshed out in that?http://www.empireonline.com/news/story.asp?NID=37670 Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/28926-breaking-bad-with-spoilers-youve-been-warned/#findComment-665345 Share on other sites
????
I thought that Walt was very well treated by the final script. I thought that something would happen to all/one of his family to let him really face upto what havoc he had sown .....would have been harder to watch but he seemed to get peace which he didn,t deserve. far less bleak than my prediction but thought Jesse would survive. MrBen
Well....Jessies survived, Sauls in Omaha running a Cinnabon and there's still $70 odd million dollars somewhere....Loved the music throughout the season and the people who've compiled Spotify playlists of the whole series. Crystal Blue persuasion is a great track but the finale was all about Marty Robbins - "Gunfighter Ballads and Trail songs" is what you need. Otta
And regarding the last episode, Walt was always the ultimate planner and brains so it was cool to watch him sort it all out.ButIt could have gone down many roads. I thought Jessie would kill Walt because he'd gotten the better of him or something.I still loved the finale and liked the big shoot out ending. TillieTrotter
Don't get me wrong, I am still in awe of Walt's misguided genius and I'm ridiculously pleased that he still felt enough love for Jessie to save him. I just thought it would be slightly more explosive. originaled
BB has got to be the best thing on television since the test card little girl playing noughts & crosses on a chalkboard watched by a demonic clown.Downloaded and watched all to the absolutely eye-boggling riveting end.I agree, how can anybody still be on 'Team Walt?' The only truths to come out of his depraved mouth at the end was a) I am the person who knocks on the door...it is me you should be afraid of(sic) b)No Skyler, I did this all for me, I enjoyed it.He has completely messed up every life he has touched - Jessie's mainly.I love Jessie for his loyalty (still bestowing the respect of teacher title 'Mr White' on the homicidal maniac to the end)I want to nurse Jessie back to full mental health.I want to start the ED branch of the BB appreciation club. Otta
The whole point is that it's a moral tale. If our long term future was taken from us, and we were desperate, as well as feeling down trodden and bitter, who knows what we'd really be capable of. ratty
Had to wait until last night to watch the finale as I have been in Tenerife all week. I was not disappointed and I thought the touch with Gretchen was superb, getting them to pay Walt Junior's money.I found myself sad when Walt died. I don't know why, the hardest scene was him saying goodbye to his baby girl though. That broke me!Fooking loved it when he shot Jack!
