Adidas_guy
Does anyone else think these banners are yet another example of taxpayers' hard-earned money being squandered?Surely Southwark Council could put the money to better use. jazzer
It's not their money, they just spend it and have no accountability, then they say a deficit exists and council tax and other charges etc. are duly increased with services provided being reduced. I hope the people of Southwark make their feelings known at the next local elections and throw this shower out of office. Rockets
Perhaps someone will add Thank You for Supporting local businesses.....because we certainly didn't.They have some front putting those up given the lack of any tangible support for the traders anywhere in Dulwich from the council. In fact they seemed to go out of their way to make things as difficult as possible for them. KidKruger
It?s as if the council lives on a different planet / is on KoolAid / has no grasp of reality. first mate
A revolting example of Trumpian spin and councillor narcissism. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/287397-banners-on-streetlights/#findComment-1518930 Share on other sites
Adidas_guy
There must also have been costs associated with the design of these banners and having them installed on the street lights?I hope someone responsible for this scandal reads these posts. Spartacus
Bet your bottom dollar that they are related to to high street recovery fund https://www.southwark.gov.uk/business/support-for-high-streets?chapter=2 Which if they are, means some bright spark has spent some of the money destined to help high streets improve , on banners ! Hopefully the funding will be used for something good and not more street art / wacky painting schemes. Nigello
Spend it on cleaning up shop fronts, fixing dodgy pavements and planting a few more trees? heartblock
It is rather insulting to the Melbourne Grove businesses. Free parking spaces for customers and regular street cleaning would be a much better 'thank you'. Nigello
I agree with the clutter aspect - wasteful and potential distractions for drivers. Clean up the streets and hoardings, add some nice street art if anything, and more mini-parks and trees, cycle hoops, etc. to help footfall grow and businesses thrive. northernmonkey
Heartblock - so many of your posts are about how the illegal levels of traffic are unacceptable, and then yet, you then decide to suggest that 'free parking' should be offered for customers of local businesses.
