Ladygooner
Looked at my bank statement yesterday and found that ?300 had been taken out of my account at an ATM in Morocco - whilst I was at home in East Dulwich. I called my bank and they have cancelled my card and sending me forms to complete. Anyone have any idea of how long it will take for Barclays to replace the money? atila the gooner
Barclays in my experience are rubbish at most things. The simple answer, from my experience, is how long is a piece of string. KalamityKel
I can't say for Barclays how long it takes but in my experience with other banks they usually deal with it fairly quickly but watch out for admin charges!I have recently had a similar thing but wiv online banking. Luckily the bank were quick to spot the strange goings on and called me straight away. They blocked all online access and transferred money back into my accounts there and then. Brendan
It happened to me a few years back with HSBC. They said they would refund the money in a couple of weeks but didn?t. When I went back to them they acted like they didn?t know anything about it and I had to re do all the forms etc. Again I didn?t get the money back so I had to do it again, this time I logged it with their customer services and sent them a letter with copies of all my previous correspondence and forms and they eventually gave me my money back. It could have all been an innocent accident but it is more likely that they have a policy of ?losing? these things a few times first in the hope that you may just give up and go away. So keep copies of everything and persist. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/2868-credit-card-fraud/#findComment-88460 Share on other sites
Maximay
I have to say a similar thing happened to me with Barclays and I have to agree, the service you receive and the length of time they take to refund stolen monies is simply attrocious (they actually have to investigate (albeit very veiled) whether or not there has in fact been time for you to have dashed to Morocco and had a wild spending spree too, although they won't tell you this! Make sure that you ask that they also cover and make provision for any interest accrued while awaiting the refund, that usually speeds them up. A while back there was rumour of a credit card copying scam at either the BP or Texaco - there were cash withdrawals made from Egypt! However not sure if entirely true. snorky
hahaI read about this Egypt/ Thailand petrol station thing on here.so I went down to the station in question and filled up - usisng an utterly spanking, clean brand new unused card just to see what would happenone week later, the CC company called me at the office to aske whether I I tried to buy ?2K worht of Gold Jewellry in bangkok the day before and then cancelled the card when I said I hadnt .coincidence ?Oh yes, I had another one done that seemed to eminate from an establishment on LL - one that is never less than revered on this forum - I have not mentioned its name, but If I did, I would be hunted down , tarred n feathered and left on GG roundabout for the foxes to gnaw at my body Retailers - all they want is your money Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/2868-credit-card-fraud/#findComment-88478 Share on other sites

KalamityKel
When I was called I was busy at work dealing wiv a very heavy incoming (queue out of the door). To varify my own account actions "had I been online in the last 30mins" the poor online fraud woman had to first get past speaking to someone at home who directed her to my work number and then had to get past a colleague who assumed it was a sales call... I think by the time she got through to me she realised I couldn't possibly have been doing any online banking at the time. jumpinjackflash
OK people so now whenever you need to fill up your tanks at Texaco - use cash! Does anyone know whether the police have investigated this? Going to start using BP garages now - at least there you can use your Nectar cards! Peckhamgatecrasher
Don't use BP. I know of someone who's been assigned from Fraud Squad to attend this problem. snorky
The filth are not bothered too much about C/C fraud these days unless there is a huge amou8nt of bleating - which there was with a certain ED garage.*maybe its best not to mention it by name ?* Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/2868-credit-card-fraud/#findComment-88566 Share on other sites
Jah Lush
I had ?400 taken from my account a couple of years ago and I got the money back from Barclays within two or three weeks if I remember correctly. The card was cloned and the so and so spent the money in a computer shop in Sutton. snoozequeen1
Thieves took ?500 from my debit card after I bought petrol from the Texaco on East Dulwich Road (September 2005). I was in a big hurry and as I explained to the police and bank at the time, I believe the man behind the counter had retained my card. There was only one other customer at the petrol station. I left the garage at 16:00 and over the next 5 hours, at half hourly intervals sums of around ?100 were spent on my credit card at other petrol stations in south east London. It only stopped because I discovered the card was missing at just before 22:00. I did raise the question of whether the other petrol stations were involved, but the police could not be bothered to investigate, and I never heard anything from them.Did get all my money back from the Woolwich but it took 3 months. *Bob*
All I can add to the general finger-pointery is that prior to ever having used a VISA to buy petrol at a petrol station in East Dulwich, I'd never suffered any card fraud (that's nearly a fifteen year stretch)And since never using a VISA again at a petrol station in East Dulwich, this hasn't happened since.I 'lost' nearly ?2000, spent on computer stuff in Malaysia or somewhere.. picked-up like a shot by First Direct and dealt with in days.. no need to reclaim or contest or any or that shite. jollybaby
I had attempted fraud committed on my visa card just the other day - someone tried to withdraw ?21 in cash in the philippines - hardly worth the effort!! Fortunately was picked up by Barclays (I just about forgive them for blocking my card when I was overseas). Can't remember buying any petrol though - must be on of those dodgy internet sites Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/2868-credit-card-fraud/#findComment-88632 Share on other sites

annaj
I'm with the Co-op and my debit card has been used fraudulently three times I think. Each time the Co-op identity fraud department have noticed the "unusual activity" on my account before I have and phoned me. They have cancelled my cards and refunded any money spent immediately and all I have to do is sign a form to say that the transactions in quesiton weren't mine. Each time it's happened I have asked them how they think it's happened and have been told it's possibly using the card on the internet, but it's impossible to tell. I kind of just accept it as part of modern banking and really appreciate how efficient the Co-op bank is at delaing with it. hibbs
I'm with Natwest and have had my switch card cloned twice. The first time I'm convinced was when I used my card at the Texaco garage in Blackheath (now closed down)they managed to spend one thousand five hundred pounds over a weekend (in lots of off licences and restaurants), I had to wait 6 weeks to get this money back. The second time it was for about six hundred pounds...it really annoys me how much inconvience these little tealeafs put me through, various appointments at the bank, phone calls, lack of funds etc...still I'm over it...Happy Easter!
