KikiMac
Hi, My partner and I are totally clueless with technology and want to get our internet for home and mobile devices set up so it is as safe as possible for our kids and possibly with time limits on devices. Does anyone know someone local who can help us with this? I'm sure it's relatively straightforward, but really, we are rubbish! Could do with someone who can walk us through it all - any recommendations would be great. Thanks,Kirsty Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/286509-safe-internet-set-up/ Share on other sites
IlonaM
You could try Robert. He helped me sort out my mobile phone, but he also does IT etc.[email protected]https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?30,2208881,2209136#msg-2209136 Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/286509-safe-internet-set-up/#findComment-1516897 Share on other sites
DuncanW
It's not super straightforward but can be done without paying someone.Firstly, put a block on any unsuitable content coming in via your internet service provider. You can phone them and they will do this for you if you're unsure how to. You can also do this with your mobile provider. That will get you 90% there, but won't give you the time limits. This can be done though fairly easily - Microsoft and Google both have family supervision tools. We use Google for our kids' Android devices and the MS one for a Windows PC. Both can restrict use by total time and times of the day, plus ban certain websites or even have it set so they can only access websites you have approved.https://families.google.com/familylink/https://account.microsoft.com/family/aboutI'm certain Apple have something similar, but I haven't used their version personally. bonaome
The Apple version is called screen time.First you need to set up a family group (of Apple IDs)https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201088Then you can simply control everything under Screen Time;https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT201304You can control which apps they can use, and when, and for how long. It's very easy to follow the instructions - they have pictures of which things to tap etc. And if you get stuck you Apple will help on chat or on the phone https://getsupport.apple.com/ Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/286509-safe-internet-set-up/#findComment-1519799 Share on other sites
KikiMac
Thanks again! Think we're nearly there - all on our own ;-) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/286509-safe-internet-set-up/#findComment-1520814 Share on other sites
RobinKoen
It seems to me that it makes sense to have one type of Internet connection for your own purposes. There are many adult online resources, for example maturetenders. If an adult is actively using any sites, chats or even shops, then he can leave the tab with the password open. I always use my smartphone for such searches and for communication.
