Your Dulwich WI needs you!

Hello EDF

Thank you for allowing me to post here.

My name is Suzanne James, and some may already have heard of me. I have a long established business - a catering company on Barry Road and much more recently, opened Fifty Seven, Restaurant + Bar on North Cross Road. I was born in SE22 and lived here all of my life!

I have just been re-elected as the VP at the Dulwich WI and I wanted to share my experience with you.

The Dulwich WI was set up three years ago when our president Sue Jarvie was unable to join the East Dulwich WI due to capacity. Wow. That was such a great position to be in and so we set about building another group in the area to compliment the first.

Three years on and here we are, on the cusp of lockdown lifting and a membership that is growing again! During this past year we have all struggled and especially us as a WI. Many have closed but somehow, we have managed to survive but not quite thrive! We lost a few members, had a couple pass away and some decide it was not quite right for them. All that said, our stead fast ladies that have been with us from the start, have asked if we are looking to recruit as they would like to make more friends in the local area. We listened and here I am posting!

Are you new to the area and looking to make new friends?

Are you looking to experience new activities?

Are you looking to just get out of the house and go somewhere safe where you can just relax?

Check out our website www.dulwichwi.com and find out more about us. We are a friendly group and would love you to meet us.

For the record:

We are very different in age, some are retired, some are working, some are new parents, some don't have to work! Some have a professional background, some play golf, some enjoy coffee mornings, some enjoy the book club, some are members and we hardly see them!

We meet on the 2nd Monday of each month and if you would like to know more then please do get in touch through the website.

Your Dulwich WI needs you too!

Thank you for taking the time to read

Suzanne

We have now had a few more ladies join the group now and it is wonderful to meet new people.

(its terribly difficult and perhaps even daunting to go into a group of people when you are alone but please do not be concerned. We are such a friendly group and do everything we can to make you feel comfortable and very welcome)

Get it touch if you are looking to make friends

    • The problem is Starmer can't shut up about his dad being a tool maker, they made Keir,  a right prize tool. Reeves continually blames the previous Govt, but correct me if I'm wrong but inflation was decreasing, unemployment was stagnant, with decreases and the occasional increase, things were beginning to stabalise overall.    Then we had the election 4 July when Starmer and co swept to power, three months on things are worse than they were before, yet Reeves continues to blame the former Govt. The national debt doubled overnight with public sectors all getting a wage increase and now the budget that penalises business with the increase in Employers national insurance. The result of which will be increased prices in the shops, increased inflation, increased numbers of redundancies, increased unemployment and increased pressures on the DWP to fund this    Future growth will go backwards and become negative, farmers will no longer farm in protest against the Govt, more people will become poorer and unable to pay their bills, things will spiral out of control and we'll have a repeat of the General Strike until this bunch of inept politicians resign and Kemi and co prevent the ship from hitting the iceberg and sinking.
    • Indeed so.  Just noting there are other options and many children and indeed young adults may well be perplexed and/or irritated by a cheque.
    • My experience of the CT is that when they screw up, their first instinct is to cover up. They are also shameless liars.
    • And that's your choice, but it's not everyone's choice.  Some people don't like or can't do what you do.
