Alan Medic
Speaking of masks, Which have done a report of how they rate in terms of effectiveness. If you're going to wear a mask (and hopefully you do), you may as well wear a useful one.https://www.which.co.uk/reviews/face-masks/article/best-reusable-face-masks-awLeA3A6XoZD Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/284926-genuine-question-for-people-who-refuse-to-wear-masks/page/2/#findComment-1512648 Share on other sites
Adidas_guy
I have become so used to wearing a mask that it?s almost second nature to me.It?s really not a big deal and it?s just considerate to Others to wear one. jazzer
Still people are travelling on buses NOT wearing masks today, even for short journeys. I am tiring of people not wearing a face covering, or using them as chin straps. Pugwash
I wear a mask but I could easily come into the exempt category due to a physical disability. At times I have forgotten to take mask with me when popping out for a few minutes, in this cold wind I am wearing a pole neck top so I just pull up the neck to cover mouth and nose. This obviously only effective/practical just for a few minutes. My son in law suffers from panic attacks and has done since he was a teenager. He wears a mask at work but informed me that he has had more panic attacks since wearing a mask than before covid. Last attack lasted several hours and he had to go home from work early. I was surprised as he had not had an attack for almost 2 years. Ronnijade
No excuse in my opinion. I have suffered with various mental health conditions including a panic and anxiety disorder since I was a teenager yet I still wear a mask regardless of how uncomfortable it can be. My opinion is that if you can?t wear a mask or downright refuse to, don?t go to a pub and put my customers, myself and my coworkers at risk. fishbiscuits
Ronnijade - I thoroughly agree with you and you have my complete sympathy. Now indoor hospitality has opened, I really think the staff deserve our respect. By that I mean - respect for their health and safety in their place of work, and respect for their role which is to serve customers while upholding legal requirements. Even if you personally do not believe in wearing masks or subscribe to daft conspiracy theories, that's your personal issue and taking your aggression out on someone just doing their job is disgraceful.I have one question for you actually - now most pubs are doing table service only, and often adding service charge (sometimes with a choice of percentage), does that service charge tend to go to the bar/waiting staff? If so, I shall make a point of tipping well for as long as this situation lasts. monica
Hi SephirothThank you I have a condition called Congenital hypothyroidism, I was born with no thyroid gland. I breathe through my mouth, so if i were to wear a mask, I would pass out. I am a Nutritional therapist, MSc, BSc, and I work in the local health food shop, so I use my own supplements.Sephiroth Wrote:-------------------------------------------------------> sounds unpleasant Monica> > out of interest, what would the medical outcome be> if you wore a mask? KidKruger
Not going to argue with you Monica so don?t take it that way, but from from personal experience with severe nasalPolyps (removed 2yrs ago - yay !!) I spent 9yrs breathing through my mouth only, along with sounding like the man in the Tunes advert when I spoke, choking a lot due to having to breathe through the hole I eat via, severe loss of sleep due to dry throat/sore throat from having to have mouth perpetually open else suffocate.Thing is I wore masks in labs and some SE Asian countries and could still breathe through my mouth in/out.I don?t understand how the mask hinders breathing through mouth ! That said... please please PLEASE tip your waiters/bar staff! Most of us are now working in crazy stressful situations on minimum wage. Doesn?t have to be a lot - that ?1 change you have in your pocket all adds up to us. :?) Ronnijade
It?s also been scientifically proven that wearing a mask doesn?t inhibit your oxygen levels whatsoever, so... I call BS on a certain post on this thread. Ahem. DuncanW
Every sympathy for bar workers (or anyone else) who have to contend with people who are blatantly not complying with the mask-wearing regs. The government guidance seems to be pretty clear though that there are some medical exceptions. So I can't get my head round why anyone, whatever their own personal experience, would feel the need to interrogate any other individual about their difficulty in wearing a face-covering. KidKruger
Oh leave it alone with the harassment Duncan. It?s not that you can?t get your head around it, it?s that you are intent on nitpicking off the back of various posts I make. Sycophantic fool. The obvious reason to ask a question is when you don?t understand, as I?ve already explained above when I said ? I don?t understand how the mask hinders breathing through mouth !?.But you won?t accept that cos you want to beat yourself off on various wind-ups.?Interrogate? my arse !Put the tissues away you Dick Head. Chunx
They should wear clear full face visors. I do that (got mine from diy place) protects me and others to. diable rouge
Poor bloke, he spent his Christmas on a Covid ward doing his 'dayjob' while those scumbags were probably sat at home stuffing themselves.I've just seen a video of a crowd (presuming from the weekend protest) chanting 'traitor' outside his house. Police need to get involved, his safety is clearly at risk... Earl Aelfheah
The Whitty thing is just appalling. Seen video of a crowd of people outside his house this morning chanting 'traitor'. these people should be arrested in my opinion. It's targeted harassment of a good man, doing a very difficult job in the service of the public. DuncanW
Yes, it's disgusting. There was talk on the news this morning of introducing a new law around harassment of public officials, but surely we already have sufficient laws to act on this type of behaviour.Somene was arrested and charged for the harassment of that Newsnight journalist/editor the other day.https://www.expressandstar.com/news/uk-news/2021/06/29/man-denies-public-order-offence-over-bbc-newsnight-editor-incident/ Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/284926-genuine-question-for-people-who-refuse-to-wear-masks/page/2/#findComment-1520981 Share on other sites
fishbiscuits
I feel absolutely terrible for the guy.I think with politicians, they expect it up to a point (although it still isn't necessarily right). But this guy is not a politician. He is a quiet, private person who has reached the pinnacle of his noble profession, thrust into the public consciousness. Sephiroth
There are multiple sides - I feel for the guy himself (and that was before I found out he lost a parent to a terrorist attack)But it's the people attacking him, how numerous they are, how vocal they are not just online but in public - and not over some debatable nuanced discussion. But as someone fighting a global pandemic. It's just balls-out crazy Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/284926-genuine-question-for-people-who-refuse-to-wear-masks/page/2/#findComment-1520997 Share on other sites
fishbiscuits
Unfortunately we live in an era when a good chunk of the population wear their ignorance on their sleeve as if it were a badge of honour. They have zero respect for science, try their best to substitute it for nonsensical guff, and vehemently, violently, believe that the establishment is conspiring against the public. (And yes, these ARE conspiracy theorists... even the ones who post on these pages ostensibly "thinking of the children", who might start their post with "I am not a conspiracy theorist").The pandemic has proved to be fertile ground for stupidity, and poor old Prof W has found himself on the front line. Not sure what the solution is. Unfortunately for him, he will never regain his anonymity. It's gone forever. Maybe he even needs a bodyguard for a while... which sounds like a terrible admission of defeat. You can't arrest all the crazies, unfortunately.
